AWC is hiring a full time Day Shift Yard Supervisor for our Chicago location near 122nd Street & Torrence. This position will be a Thursday-Sunday shift starting at 6am. You can expect up to 12-hour shifts depending on the needs of the site. Summary of Position: The Yard Supervisor is responsible for organizing and scheduling staff and directing the day-to-day operations of all yard functions. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and production needs of our customer are meet through efficient productivity of the associates. This position coordinates activities of associates under the direction of the Terminal Manager or Operations Manager to ensure a well-coordinated productive operation. Essential Functions, Duties & Tasks: ​Responsible for the daily scheduling of personnel in order to complete receipt/movement/storage and pre-delivery inspections of vehicles in a productive, cost efficient manner. Assists in directing the facility's day-to-day activities. Assists in overseeing yard management and movement of vehicles. Ensures personnel have the support, tools and supplies needed for efficient operations. Conducts audits and makes suggestions for corrective actions a needed. Ensures new personnel receive the appropriate training. Documents performance issues and coordinates all corrective actions with the Operations and/or Terminal Manager Ensures all AAR, Customer and AWC policies and procedures are followed Communicates daily with AWC associates, staff, managers, customers and vendors to determine staffing, supply and operational needs are met Responsible for the progressive disciplinary process in the areas of counseling, coaching, warnings and other corrective actions to ensure that a productive labor climate exists. Responsible for enforcement and administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement Responsible for enforcing safety practices in order to provide a safe, clean workplace for all associates and within the regulations of local, state, federal, OSHA and customer standards. Approve hourly associate work hours to ensure accurate weekly payroll. Provides reports as requested for the customer. Reports accidents and injuries on appropriate forms and communicate the procedure to all appropriate customer/vendors and AWC personnel Conducts accident investigations May interface with the customer to ensure customer satisfaction Ensures that processes are in compliance with customer quality and safety requirements through daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly audits Propose and implements corrective actions as necessary Reacts to change productively and handles other essential tasks as assigned Manages the bargaining unit and is responsible for the accurate payment of wages through the time and attendance program Responsible for holding hourly associates accountable to the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Responsible for coaching, mentoring and issuing disciplinary reprimands to the hourly associates in a timely manner. May assist in the maintenance of equipment or company vehicles May assist with snow removal or other property maintenance issues Any other dues as assigned by management Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Knows, understands and can administer effective coaching and mentoring ​Ability to effectively supervise and delegate work to others Ability to communicate deficiencies not in line with standard procedures in a diplomatic and appropriate manner. Ability to keep confidential any work or personnel documents seen, heard or generated in the performance of job duties Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Ability to read and interpret technical manuals such as the Ford Customer Manual and a Collective Bargaining Agreement Good communication skills, both written and oral Must treat all individuals with respect and dignity Must have a positive attitude and the ability to work in a team-orientated culture with strong communication skills Must be customer-focused, results oriented, have solid decision-making ability and strong organizational skills Must be able to resolve conflict with the ability to build relationships Education, Experience & Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent 1-3 years supervisory experience Valid Driver's License with good driving record Ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles Mechanical aptitude Must be computer literate with Word, Excel, Outlook, Inventory Control systems and Time & Attendance software Must be able to work any shift, often in extreme weather conditions 75% of the time Ability to pass safe driving video/quiz with 80% accuracy or higher Must be able to obtain eRailSafe clearance Preferred Requirements: ​Associates Degree Supervisory experience preferably in a logistics or manufacturing environment Experience in snow removal, snow plowing and/or salting Auto Warehousing Company, including its subsidiaries, is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, veteran status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status or disability (in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act) with respect to employment opportunities.
