Job Summary: The Wildfire Crisis Coordinator (WCC) position will implement and manage, at the field level, the programmatic delivery of all elements related to the Wildfire Crisis Strategy [1] (WCS) and USFS/NWTF National Master Stewardship Agreement within the assigned USFS Region. Additionally, the WCC will assist with the implementation of the Wildfire Risk Reduction Solutions Pilot. and will report to the Wildfire Crisis Manager and work in cooperation and coordination, when needed, with the NWTF District Biologist(s) in their respective USFS Region. The position will also coordinate, manage and supervise the timber industry contractors and other contractors associated with the implementation of all projects related to Supplemental Project Agreement (SPA) work within the appropriate Region of the USFS. The WCC will implement work in alignment with the Priorities identified in NWTF's Wildfire Crisis Strategy Proposal to the USFS. ensure that Federal and private dollars are used appropriately, effectively and facilitate WCS Priorities delivery. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Duties and Responsibilities: Represents the NWTF and ensure that all projects meet the intention of the Regional, Supplemental Project Agreement and is in alignment with the National Master Stewardship Agreement between the NWTF and US Forest Service. Maintain an on-the-ground presence and supervises all project level contractors necessary in the implementation of the Regional SPA. Provides daily direction and guidance to contractors and assists the Wildfire Crisis Manager with additional employee hiring as requested. Administers and manages projects, providing oversight and management of contractors, consultants, specialists and inspectors providing services for stewardship and other agreements and other conservation related work. Understands and identifies timber sales and all stewardship authority contracting principles. Assists in the development and leads the subsequent implementation of stewardship agreements within the Regional SPA priorities determined between the NWTF and USFS. Understands the concepts around underutilized forest products or markets where supply exceeds demand to the existing mill infrastructure and matches excess supply with unmet demand as well as the importance of meeting the Wildfire Crisis Strategy Priorities. Understand the importance of a sustainable timber industry and the critical role the industry plays in active forest management and especially in confronting the wildfire crisis. Understand the principles of, articulate and deploy work in alignment with NWTF's 4 Shared Values of conservation delivery. Understand the importance and connection between forest restoration principles and conservation delivery around the 4 Shared Values identified by the NWTF [2] . Build relationships with federal and state agency, tribal and industry partners. Communicates frequently, openly and honestly with all partners and NWTF staff. Establish relationships and develops new SPA-related opportunities through partnerships that help to achieve sustainability goals. Work with NWTF staff to ensure that Federal, state and private dollars are used effectively by selecting quality projects. Serve as a liaison between NWTF staff, the USFS at the District level, industry and other agency or NGO partners. Engage in policy issues that directly relate to the Wildfire Crisis or other aspects of NWTF's mission. Position will advise their supervisor and make aware of issues in which NWTF might engage. Leads and assists in making presentations, drafting white papers, Requests for Proposals, briefing papers, and other documentation to support the implementation of the WCS. Works as a member of the Conservation Programs team and collaboratively with other NWTF staff across all branches to ensure programmatic understanding and create opportunities for memberships, partnerships, fundraising and philanthropy. Position may require the oversight of contractors, term staff or other positions during the term. Attend the annual NWTF Convention, regional meetings and training opportunities as necessary. Other similar duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: Exceptional verbal and written communication, organization and relationship building skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Exchange is required. The ability to multitask in a dynamic environment and manage projects with minimum supervision is also required. Working knowledge of governmental regulations regarding the fiscal management of awards. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Working knowledge of governmental regulations regarding the fiscal management of awards. Works with the NWTF Communications and USFS staff to tell the conservation and wildfire crisis story to increase public support for forest restoration and SPA project support. Identifies external funding sources such as grants (state, federal, or private), stewardship contracts, major gifts and sponsorships. Assists in development and tracking of budgets, agreements and contracts. Attend annual NWTF Convention, regional meetings and training opportunities, as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned. Preferred Skills/Abilities: Employee must understand the timber industry, various needs and operations, timber market concepts as well as timber transportation concepts. Some level of experience supervising and managing contracts and budgets. Knowledge or experience working with railroad and/or other transportation industry. Experience managing complex supply and demand projects with multiple objectives Understanding of forest carbon sequestration and storage Ability to work independently, and determine work priorities daily, weekly and monthly as required. Must have good public speaking and presentation skills. Ability to identify tree species, wildlife species, shrubs and invasive species. Ability to navigate and communicate in remote and rural areas. Knowledge of and experience working with timber contracting and stewardship sales Must be willing to incur moderate travel including overnight stays up to 5 nights or more. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a natural resources-related field or experience. Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience, and/or a Master's degree with two (2) years of professional experience or equivalent in a natural resources field. . Physical Requirements: Must be able and willing to work, often alone, in a diverse range of climatic and topographic conditions including extreme hot and cold temperatures, rain, snow, sleet, ice, biting insects, snakes, mountainous terrain, swamps, very remote areas with limited access and amenities and other extreme conditions as warranted. Must be able to walk several miles per day in the conditions described above. Must be able to drive and/or ride long distances frequently. Must be able to ride in fixed wing or rotary wing aircraft or watercraft. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 20lbs. Remote or Telecomm Status: Position can work remotely subject to in-office work as required.
