GENERAL FUNCTION Under the direction of the Executive Director, and in accordance with Association policies, the Wellness Director is responsible for the leadership and advancement of the strategies for the YMCA's Wellness Department, which includes group exercise programs, the fitness center, and silver sneakers programs, along with working with the Smart Center. This position will oversee the development and implementation of innovative curriculum and activities, supervise, guide and develop staff to ensure that participant's development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. This position will also work together with the Membership Director to provide services and outreach to the branch's Partners in Healthy Living. KNOW HOW The Wellness Director must possess 3 - 5 years' experience in group exercise program development and management as well as personal training and fitness center management. A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education/experience would be preferred but not necessary. The incumbent will have a high level of knowledge and demonstrated competence in the areas of Group Exercise and Adult Wellness. He/she should have a positive history of leadership in the areas of staff, program development, fiscal budgeting and management, and operational procedures. Team Leader Certification preferred. Proven ability to display initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently is required. Able to demonstrate written and verbal communication skills; public speaking, capacity to prepare reports, conduct training programs, create policies and guidelines, proven financial development experience and skills. Will possess competent computer skills in the Windows environment as well as ThinSoft Programs. JOB SEGMENTS Ensures that daily care of members, teens and families is a key priority through supervision of staff and volunteers in accordance with the organization's policies, mission and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in all areas of the Wellness Department. Lead all Wellness programming by providing direction, leadership, support, and efficiencies for team members through strategic planning, administrative standardization, registration, quality standards, and risk management. Will embrace, use and require all department staff to use all tools provided to increase the level of member interaction, including technological tools. Lead activities, external programs, staffing and follow annual standards that achieve outcomes, which are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys and follow-up. Collaborates with Branch Leadership and staff to ensure excellence and consistency in service through daily care of members, program participants and volunteers. Champion program curriculums, development, staffing and set annual standards that achieve programmatic outcomes and are reviewed and verified through audits, surveys, and on-site visits. Serve as a staff liaison to Executive Director concerning their Wellness Department's programs and trainings. Act as a mentor to the Department's staff. Ensures staff are trained and prepared to achieve the desired program outcomes. Along with the Membership Director, will develop, implement, and monitor strategies for the achievement of goals related to Healthy Living. Responsible for strict adherence to and annually reviews all Wellness Department program policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations; current CPR, First Aid, First Responder training. Role Model strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of budgets and forecasting. Requires flexible hours to work evenings and weekends.
