We are seeking aInjury Prevention Program Coordinator to align with the mission and vision of the Pediatric Trauma and Burn Programs. The pediatric Injury Prevention Program Coordinator assists the Trauma and Burn Program manager in planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating injury prevention initiatives for the Children's Center and communities in and around the state of Maryland. The coordinator utilizes clinical and theoretical knowledge to analyze data to develop plans to meet the needs of patients, families, and the community. Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesInvolved in all injury prevention activities including program development, evaluation, communication initiatives and data analysis.Involved in the overall strategic planning for institution-wide child injury prevention policies, programs, and initiatives.Pursues and evaluates external funding for current and future injury prevention projects.Monitors the injury prevention gift fund budget which includes expenditures and creating community education program budget expenses.Develops comprehensive programming and adequate support for pediatric injury prevention programs across the institution.Utilizes evidenced based injury prevention interventions in interactions with patients and families.Oversees the car seat program for Children's Center patients.Leads injury prevention training programs for internal and external professionals working with pediatric patients and youth in the community.Ensure compliance of injury prevention related policy/patient safety. Collaborates with leadership of the pediatric trauma and burn programs to establish strategic plans for expanding the impact and reach of the pediatric injury prevention program. Identifies available resources to meet the needs of the community, ensures evaluation of completed programs, provides recommendations, and disseminates information based on results.Develops & maintains a public presence for the pediatric injury prevention programPromotes community awareness of the regional pediatric trauma and burn center and injury prevention program, including a positive institutional community image, in conjunction with Public Affairs and Children's Center Development team.Serves as a spokesperson, both to raise awareness for child safety and to bring recognition and credibility to the hospital's community education outreach effortsUpdates all injury prevention activities on the Johns Hopkins Children's Center website and links to other credible injury prevention resources on the web, as well as collaborates with JHM Marketing for print pieces such as brochures, audiovisual aids and presentation handouts.Works with Hospital, University, local, regional, and statewide injury prevention, and healthcare partners to influence institutional and public policy changes regarding injury prevention.Collaborates with national, state (Maryland Institution Emergency Medical Service Systems-MIEMSS), regional and local agencies in developing, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of injury prevention and public education programs.Partner with PI's from multiple disciplines for research efforts related to pediatric trauma and burn injury prevention.Actively participates with community agencies and professional organizations, within the state and nationally, to build relationships to enhance injury prevention programs throughout the region.Maintains an understanding of public policy and represents the safety needs of children at the state and national level.Directs the dissemination of injury prevention best practice recommendations to the families, staff, surrounding community, and the media of the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.Serves as a health education resource for the community and an ambassador/expert in injury prevention for the hospital.Collaborates to lead all aspects of the Injury Prevention Community Outreach ProgramInvolved in all elements of community education programs, including recruiting and training Hospital employees as community volunteers, and organizing hospital resources for practical use by the community.Identifies and develops community partnerships with multidisciplinary service providers, leaders, and management, both internal and external, to identify needs, develop plans, identify resources, obtain grants, and implement programs to address pediatric injury prevention needs in the community.Manages the election and scheduling of topics, speakers, and sites.Supervises the registration process, organization, and distribution of equipment and supplies for pediatric Injury Prevention.Develops culturally tailored educational and promotional materials for behavior change.Conducts analysis of the Pediatric Trauma & Burn, State and National registry data to develop injury prevention priorities and aid in the development and evaluation of pediatric injury prevention initiatives.Conducts data and evidence-based needs assessments and program evaluations.Designs and delivers ad hoc education for multidisciplinary personnel on pediatric injury prevention topics identified through the registry and performance improvement initiatives.Utilizes registry data to identify high-risk behaviors and high-risk communities to develop corresponding injury prevention strategies to reduce childhood injury, and target childhood injury prevention outreach.Coordinates Injury Prevention Research ActivitiesInvolved in designs of injury prevention research protocols/study designs, scripts, and evaluation tools; and prepares documentation for IRB submissions.Responsible for handling all inquiries pertinent to training and research protocols.Collaborates with PI for pediatric trauma and burn injury prevention research.Submits annual program summary and evaluation for MIEMSS Annual Report.Supports data gathering and documentation for accreditation site reviews on relevant pediatric injury prevention work.Recruits, trains, orients, motivates, schedules, evaluates and supervises health educators, research assistants, staff, student interns, and volunteers; assign and review work activities to meet productivity goals, and implement quality improvement efforts.Promotes problem solving and open communication, sensitivity to personal problems, and recognition of performance.Ensures communication of and compliance with institution policies, procedures, and standards.This position will superviseHospital Volunteers and Community Outreach Programs & Activities.Additional Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesDatabase, research protocols, community-based experience, injury prevention knowledge, etc., Excellent written and oral communication skills. Including presentation knowledge/skills, physical and remote public speaking.Grant writing, research, data compiling, budget management, report writing, and community relations activity experience.Knowledge of the principles of public health education and the ability to use these principles to address major public health concerns.Knowledge of injury prevention strategies and best practices.Knowledge of current state local government resources which may contribute to injury prevention strategies.Core CompetenciesProgram development, evaluation, and implementation.Effective presentation and communication skills.Ability to analyze and process data.Articulate program activities across multiple disciplines and platforms.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in related discipline.Three years related experience.Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Preferred QualificationsComputer - PC and/or MAC, projector, fax/copier/scanner/printer. Knowledge of computer database systems for tracking program reach and outcomes. PowerPoint or other presentation software application knowledge, public speaking.
