We are seeking a Sr. Graphic Designer. The Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams, 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Constituent Relations and 3) Finance and Administration.The award-winning Communications and Marketing team provides strategic communications, external and internal communications, and marketing services for the School across a variety of digital, print, and physical platforms. This includes brand and identity management, digital strategies and web services, editorial and content strategies, visual communications, media and public relations, social media, and integrated marketing campaigns.As the #1 school of public health in the country and the oldest independent, degree-granting school of public health in the world, the Bloomberg School of Public Health offers unparalleled opportunities for mission-driven creative work at the highest levels.This position reports to the Director of Brand and Creative Services and is responsible for a wide range of visual communications projects from initial concept to delivery including the preparation of files for print/web/digital as well as branded gifts and environmental graphics. Knowledge of the creative design and production process is required for this position to carry out tasks such as attending kickoff meetings with clients, developing briefs and specifications, evaluating production schedules, presenting design directions, making corrections, and obtaining approvals, ensuring that the final products meet the School's creative standards, budget, and delivery schedule.The position is based within the Communications and Marketing Team, Office of External Affairs (OEA) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The position works with other communication and marketing positions and with the development and alumni relations team on projects for OEA and internal clients across the School. This position designs projects for a range of key audiences including faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, prospective students, and affiliated and unaffiliated friends of the school. Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesDesign and create high-quality print and digital materials from initial concept to completion. Materials include ads, banners, booklets, certificates, displays, emails, event collateral, folders, plaques, postcards, presentations, signage, social media graphics, web graphics, webcast graphics, etc.Serve as a lead designer for social media graphics across platforms, pitching, storyboarding, and designing visual assets-including assets needed for paid advertising campaigns on these networks, working closely with the school's social media and content strategy teams.Lead visual communication efforts for the Office of External Affairs' Development and Alumni Relations teams by designing ads, reports, postcards, folders, plaques, event collateral, booklets, emails, social media graphics, web graphics, and more. Assist in supporting the Dean's Office by designing publications and other visual communications including the school's strategic plan booklets, letters, and various PowerPoint presentations. Assist with the art direction and production of the Hopkins Bloomberg Public Health magazine including creative input, producing and sourcing visuals, sourcing and contracting freelance illustrators and photographers, and providing design feedback and advice.Work directly with clients to manage project needs, scope, goals, schedule, budget, milestones, review process, and approval. Consult with internal and external stakeholders to determine communication goals, scope, audiences, and outcomes and recommend the most appropriate communication tactics, concepts, and deliverables to meet their needs. Collaborate with stakeholders, clients, and various cross-functional internal teams to brainstorm, design, develop, present, and deliver compelling, impactful design solutions.Work directly with various external vendors including communications firms, design studios, freelancers, photographers, printers, production companies, specialty companies, and others overseeing key aspects such as estimates, invoices, production, reviews, proofs, press checks, final approval/sign-off, and delivery.Collaborate with the Director of Audience Engagement and Marketing Manager to create effective ads on various print and digital platforms.Play an integral role in creating, evolving, maintaining, and reinforcing the School and University's strong global brand across social media accounts, podcasts, websites, newsletters, signage, and other communication deliverables, and communicate guidelines to others to help them apply and adhere to the guidelines.Support the web team by sourcing a variety of imagery from photoshoots and stock subscriptions and by producing key graphics for webpages. Work within the office's project management system and approach, ensuring deadlines are met, information is maintained in the project management system, and liaison with other project team members or leads is maintained.Assist with conceptualizing photoshoots, sourcing, selecting, and art directing photographers, and elevating our quality of photography across all mediums. Collaborate with design team colleagues to upload, maintain, and distribute visual assets in Photo Shelter, the Office of External Affairs' digital asset management system. Establish and execute an office-wide, permanent file naming and convention system, upload photos, add relevant keywords, and assist others in using the online tool.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in fine arts, graphic design, or related field.Four year's experience and a portfolio.Preferred QualificationsProficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, etc.).Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work, including digital and print materials.Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced changing environment.Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.Familiarity with communications and project management tools (Teams, Trello, OneDrive, Slack, etc.)Familiarity with marketing principles and an understanding of branding.Knowledge of methods, procedures, techniques, and mediums available for graphic and visual design is important. This includes the understanding of the prepress procedure, types and quality of printing materials such as paper, fabric, vinyl, etc., special surface treatments, ink behavior, printing/folding/binding methods, and being able to determine the best option for each project.Critical thinking about creative work, design, and outcomes is essential.Experience creating and designing content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.)Meticulous attention to detail with an emphasis on clean workflow and design file managementGiven the broad array of requests from stakeholders, a strong sense of professional judgment is critical for success.Experience with Canva, Figma, XD, or Sketch, and Adobe After Effects.Basic knowledge of UI/UXFamiliarity working within a content management system, Drupal preferred.Classified Title: Sr. Graphic DesignerRole/Level/Range: ATP/04/PCStarting Salary Range: Min $53,300 - Max $93,500 Annually (Commensurate with experience)Employee group: Full TimeSchedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30 am - 5:00 pmExempt Status:ExemptLocation:Hybrid/School of Public HealthDepartment name: CommunicationsPersonnel area: School of Public HealthTotal RewardsThe referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting.
