POSITION SUMMARY: Works under the direct supervision of the Dining Room Manager to provide overall service to the customers (residents and guests) of the dining room. Provides table services duties for the dining room area and catered events. Assists customers with food selections and provides efficient delivery of food and beverages. Responsibilities include resetting areas for the next service/meal and working in other Nutritional Services areas as assigned by supervisor on an as-needed basis. Adheres to and complies with established Blue Skies of Texas, Sodexo, and applicable regulatory agencies policy standard practices and procedures. Incumbent must provide outstanding customer service in a friendly manner. Ability to identify issues of concern and report them to supervisor as needed for follow-up and to ensure customer satisfaction. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Will be expected to assume heavy workloads with a great deal of time spent on their feet. Some heavy lifting is required, as well as pushing/pulling. Incumbent must act in a positive and pleasing manner in all customer contact areas. Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English. Possess the ability to record customer orders and do simple math calculations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior food service experience. Previous experience in wait staff position highly desired. EQUIPMENT AND COMPUTER OPERATIONS: A working knowledge of the various equipment in the kitchen and dining areas, i.e. coffee urn, iced tea machine, etc., is desired. Training will be provided to familiarize incumbent with related equipment to ensure safety during use. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Preferred: Ongoing education is encouraged. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Sets up assigned work station with all necessary supplies prior to serving times and replenishes supplies such as flatware, dishes, condiments, etc. as needed. Greets customers in a courteous manner and assists with questions (i.e. table reservations, etc.). Answers questions and makes suggestions regarding food and service, records orders, relays orders to production area, and serves courses to customers. Observes customer to fulfill any additional requests and to perceive when meal has been completed. Clears table as needed while customers are enjoying meal, then cleans and resets table for next service. Follows unit procedures for recording and presenting order to the customer and determining if meal is part of resident's meal plan. May ladle soup, toss salads, portion pies and desserts, brew coffee and perform other services as needed to provide efficient service to customers. Cleans assigned areas by following established cleaning schedules and procedures for service areas. Identifies safety and sanitation hazards and report them immediately to the Supervisor or management. Follows Standards of Operations for food handling and storage, and department safety and sanitation procedures. Assists with dishwashing duties as needed and as assigned by Supervisor. Attends department meetings and in-service programs. Assists in training new employees. Assists with floral arrangement duties as needed and as assigned by Supervisor. Complies with all established Blue Skies of Texas policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor. SUBORDINATES: None. INTERNAL CONTROL: Within the scope of position duties, responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with. This position will handle confidential information and must treat such with appropriate sensitivity. PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Job duties are very rigorous and physical demands are high at times. Must be able to stand and walk 6 to 7 hours daily, and lift 20 to 50 pounds three to five hours daily. Push and pull up to 100 pounds for three to five hours daily. Bending, squatting and reaching are necessary as well as mobility for frequent maneuvering in and between work areas. Exposure to heat, fumes and odors in food preparation and service areas is likely. WORK SCHEDULE: Core work hours are varied. Rotating days and shifts may be required including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Special events or assignments may require working other hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. WORK LOCATION: Most work will take place at the BST - West, Health Care Center, and Liberty House food preparation and service areas. ATTIRE/DRESS CODE: Uniform required as specified by department. Close-toed, slip-resistant shoes required. Use and wear of safety equipment/personal protective equipment required when using chemicals, or as directed. See employee handbook for specific guidelines.
