Summary: Under basic supervision, operates specialized trucks and equipment to move sludge from the Bob Derrington Water Reclamation Plant, Water Treatment Plant for the Utilities Department; operates vehicles, equipment, and tools in compliance with all safety regulations and standard procedures. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following : Operates a variety of specialized trucks and machinery to move and transfer sludge and other materials from the Water Reclamation Plant to the landfill; operates specialized vehicles in compliance with all safety regulations and City procedures. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries. Supports the division operations regular and timely attendance. Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience Guidelines : High School Diploma or GED preferred; AND one year of work experience operating trucks and machinery. Knowledge of: Safety policies and standards, and safe driving practices in public streets. City geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks, and City facility locations. Skill in: Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Following standard operating and safety procedures, and verbal and written instructions. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers. Ability to : Work under varying job conditions and weather Assist maintenance technicians and workers as needed. License and certification requirements : A Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License is required. Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and at City facilities; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment.
