The Position Full-time Upper School English Teacher Position Summary: The Baldwin School is seeking a full-time Upper School English Teacher. This candidate will teach four sections of Upper School English, including survey courses and English Senior Seminar electives. Working from the foundational curriculum and materials provided, the teacher will collaborate and develop engaging lessons to meet the needs of all learners and will use appropriate academic technology to enrich our rigorous and lively curriculum. Candidates should be interested in working collaboratively on innovative curriculum design and development. Candidates must possess expertise in a range of literary genres and time periods and must be committed to seeking out new voices and communities to include in their classes. Candidates must also approach the teaching of writing as an iterative process; they should have experience guiding students through scholarly and creative writing, interdisciplinary projects, and public speaking opportunities. In addition to the ability to teach English, candidates must be able to engage students positively, with a growth mindset, and interact productively with colleagues and parents. All Baldwin teachers are expected to support the school's mission and engage in those duties typical of independent day school life. Responsibilities: Work collaboratively with English Department team-teachers Work with other grade-level teachers to build cross-curricular connections Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and commitment to growth for yourself and your students Actively pursue professional development in the teaching of literature and writing, teaching with technology and/or teaching in interdisciplinary project-based approaches In partnership with the department chair, develop appropriate curriculum and lessons to prepare students for the next level of classes Serve as an advisor, club leader, chaperone, or other co-curricular leader in support of the Upper School Other duties as assigned Requirements: B.A. in English required. M.A in English strongly preferred 5 years of teaching experience, or its equivalent, preferably at the Upper School level Excellent written and oral communication skills Creative, energetic, and positive approach to teaching Commitment to the pursuit of professional development in the teaching of literature and writing Experience using academic technology software and classroom technology Preferred Qualifications Include: Expertise in Black American literature Demonstrated commitment to professional collaboration and team-teaching Experience in differentiating instruction in reading and writing Background in interdisciplinary and project-based learning Contact Interested candidates, please submit a cover letter, resume, a philosophy of education, and three references.
