PURPOSE OF POSITION To provide instruction to students outside of the classroom; review lesson content with students; explain how to solve problems and check student's completed work. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Required Qualifications High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate. Must be 21 years of age for grades 9-12. Preferred Experience Committed in maintaining a professional relationship with students. Knowledge about the core subject and connection to resources. Required Skills A passion for learning and teaching; international-minded. Calmness under pressure. Be familiar with the learning objectives as a guide to progressive learning. Flexible, adaptable and persuasive . Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Energy (motivation and enthusiasm) Involvement, respect, empathy and acceptance. Patience and persistence. Willingness to listen; non-judgmental. Desired Knowledge Basic knowledge, understanding, and respect for the Navajo language, history, and culture. Appreciation of the philosophy of student's residential and day school experience. Navajo/Indian preference: Consideration for employment will be given to Navajo, American Indian or Alaskan Tribal member with the required documentation including the necessary qualifications to meet the minimum requirements of the position. The Navajo/Indian preference law shall apply in all aspects of the position. EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION The position is placed on the approved NPS Professional Salary Schedule. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT Salary and work calendar established yearly by budget and salary scale. SUPERVISOR Primary: Assistant to the Head of School RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Follow the Code of Ethics. Be a good role model for the students. Facilitate a learning environment that is open and non-threatening. Assist students to comprehend the curriculum content intelligently. Assist students to become independent and collaborative learners. Train students in developing appropriate study skills. Keep all information confidential. Be prompt and courteous.
