Position Scope: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Position Duties and Responsibilities: Selects welding procedures best suited to type of work and material involved and vary techniques to obtain proper penetration, fusion and strength, offset distortion and maintain alignment. Reads fabrication prints, production orders, bills of material, and process sheets. Reviews all parts for accuracy. Sets the controls and/or make the proper adjustments to the welding torch, wire feed motor, and power supply. Fits-up jobs in welding fixtures and jigs. Ensures proper alignment and dimensional specifications are held. Welds or tacks parts into various sub-assemblies or complete assemblies. Cleans welded area by performing initial grinding operation. Monitors welding process and make adjustments if necessary. Unloads welded structure from welding fixtures/jigs. Inspects all work at each step of the procedure to assure compliance with company's Quality Standard Policy and Procedures. Keeps Welding Supervisor informed of any quality variances. Completes a scrap and rework report for any quality errors. Assures the work area and aisles around them are kept clean and free of debris. Returns all items and tools to their proper place. Follows procedures in company handbook and other documents. Displays a sense of urgency towards completing assigned tasks. Maintains outstanding attendance and work ethic. Works within a team concept and contributes to a positive work environment. Demonstrates a professional attitude in approaching job assignment. Maintains professional image to customer and other employees. Other duties that may be assigned on an as-required basis. Qualifications: Ability to read and interpret complex drawings/blue prints. A sound and thorough knowledge of welding technology, equipment types, purposes and applications, material characteristics and basic metallurgy. Knowledge and skill in MIG and TIG welding, as well as basic fabrication machines. Ability to weld a variety of materials, especially stainless steels, in all positions. Must be able to work to a high quality level with attention to detail. Ability to work productively, independently and cooperatively. Must be familiar with department standards. Ability to do simple mathematical calculations. Knowledge of and ability to use measuring devices (such as veneers, calipers, angle finders, and squares). Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods. Willingness to cross-train and rotate positions effectively. Good manual dexterity and hand eye coordination. Ability to operate machinery and use tools safely and productively. Ability to participate in continuing education and ongoing training to fulfill job expectations. Education and/or Experience: High school education and must have a minimum of three years experience in MIG/TIG welding processes. Experience in welding of stainless steel and aluminum required. Trade school certification and a working knowledge of welding are desired.
