WHAT YOU'LL DO The Therapeutic Counselor is part of a team focused on building a program that recognizes the inherent resilience of survivors and provides therapy services rooted in an anti-oppressive framework. They are primarily responsible for providing responsive, proactive, survivor-led therapeutic services for victims and survivors of interpersonal violence, human trafficking, teen dating violence, sexual violence, and other types of crime victimization. We have expanded and grown to an increasingly bold and empowered agency that advocates for change while supporting survivors in Orange and Sullivan Counties in NY. THE FEARLESS! MISSION To build an informed, just, and accountable society so all people can experience supportive and safe relationships free from abuse, exploitation, and oppression. We do this through education, prevention, advocacy, and providing comprehensive services, including shelter, to victims and survivors of interpersonal violence, human trafficking, sexual violence, and other types of crime victimization. WHAT YOU'LL BRING ALONG Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree in counseling or social work; An active, unrestricted license (Ph.D., PsyD, LCSW, or LMHC) in the State of New York (must be fully licensed or have a Limited Permit as a Mental Health Counselor ) Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office programs and other technology, i.e., Skype & Zoom. Valid Driver's License, Auto Insurance, and reliable transportation to travel between the agency's office sites and other locations throughout the service region. Physical demands include but are not limited to long periods of sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 50 pounds, and navigating stairs. POSITION TITLE: Therapeutic Counselor REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical and Prevention Services PRIMARY WORKSITE: Family Justice Center, Newburgh, Orange County CLASSIFICATION/STATUS: Full Time, Exempt BASE SALARY RANGE: $58,500.00 - $61,500.00 WORK HOURS: 40 hours - Monday through Friday primary business hours 9 am -5:00 pm, with flexibility around evenings, weekends, and holidays. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Advocacy & Therapeutic Service Program Responsibilities Provide culturally informed, trauma-focused clinical services, including individual and group therapy to victims/survivors in both Orange and Sullivan County, as assigned. Proactively follow up on assigned referrals, schedule clients for appointments, and encourage ongoing attendance. Continually assess client circumstances and implement varied treatment modalities and approaches in response to client needs and experiences. Develop collaborative treatment plans with the survivor to determine treatment goals and engage in ongoing goal planning and evaluation. Collaboratively work with qualified individuals to find and secure permanent housing options. Connect clients to outside resources or agencies that can better address their needs when required. Provide and maintain ongoing in-person services in the areas of, but not limited to, independent living, community integration, employment linkage, benefits establishment, linkage to appropriate community resources, primary health, and mental health care. As needed and available, provide culturally informed, trauma-responsive crisis intervention and nonjudgmental, supportive, comprehensive services to clients, including, but not limited to, assessments, intakes; individual and group supportive counseling, advocacy and accompaniment, follow-up contact, as safe and appropriate, and outreach, information, and referrals. Provide clients with information regarding the NYS Office of Victims Services, assist with filing applications for OVS compensation, and serve as a liaison between clients and OVS. Provide on-call crisis counseling support during evenings, overnights, and weekends, as scheduled. Administrative & Agency Responsibilities Actively participate in supervision with the Director of Clinical & Prevention Services. Work closely and collaboratively with the Program Director, other supervisory staff, as appropriate, and team members to understand and accomplish position responsibilities. Participate in program-specific and agency-wide meetings, training, awareness month activities, and agency events. Work closely and collaboratively with agency staff within the Family Justice Center, residential settings, and collocated office spaces. Work closely and collaboratively with community partner organizations while supporting clients' needs. Maintain the confidentiality of clients, staff, volunteers, and agency information. Maintain the highest levels of accuracy in recordkeeping and reporting, ensuring that all client records and documentation of work activities are complete and up-to-date and submitted to the supervisor as directed. Ensure timely response and follow-up to email communication and voicemail messages. Staff members are encouraged to be flexible and responsive to changes in the scope of duties, including other duties as assigned by immediate and other supervisors. Worksite Safety & Hygiene Proactively monitor the overall condition of the agency and ensure the maintenance of a clean, welcoming environment for individuals accessing services. Attend to overall facility maintenance and repairs. Adhere to and uphold agency policies and protocols related to clients' physical safety and the safety of electronic client service records. Additional Must-Have Requirements Ability to model and uphold appropriate boundaries in work with clients, colleagues, supervisors, and the community. Demonstrates good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions. The desire to make effective and long-lasting change through education, prevention, advocacy, and providing comprehensive mental health services whenever possible. Experience with data management and knowledge of Microsoft Office. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Bonus Qualifications: Direct experience providing direct crisis counseling and advocacy services to victims/survivors of intersecting forms of violence and abuse is strongly preferred.
