Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users. Pulling on your technical and leadership expertise, you lead end-to-end research projects in multiple areas of expertise across data center facilities and manage a team of direct reports working on equipment installation, troubleshooting and debugging.This team is responsible for delivering the hardware that powers all products. We are a multi disciplinary Hardware team that owns product development from concept explorations to end product validation. As the Camera Hardware Engineering Manager, you will lead all aspects of camera hardware development enabling the creation of new products.Project Starline from Google combines advances in hardware and software to enable friends, families and co-workers to feel together, even when they're cities (or countries) apart. Imagine looking through a magic window, and through that window, you see another person, life-size and in three-dimensions. As part of the Project Starline team, you'll work with researchers and engineers in a fast-paced product-oriented environment. Our teams collaborate closely with Google Workspace and Research teams. Your contributions will have an impact on the future of communications with Google products. You will apply technology to solve that really important problem that we often want to be together and we can't.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$252,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 6 years of experience working in a camera hardware engineering technical environment, or 5 years of experience with an advanced degree. 3 years of experience in technical leadership. Preferred qualifications: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience leading the development of complex camera systems from concept to mass production. Experience with lab measurements and validation. Knowledge of one or more of the following: analog and digital electronics, image sensors, imaging and illumination lens design, thermal engineering, camera firmware, camera ISP pipeline, opto-mechanical design, photometry and radiometry. Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of skilled camera hardware engineers dedicated to designing, developing, and improving camera modules and systems. Define camera system architectures, ensuring they meet cost, performance, reliability, and quality requirements. Oversee the design and specifications of key elements such as image sensors, lenses, optics, actuators, and camera module packaging. Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, product management, supply chain, manufacturing) for seamless product development while also guiding hardware-software integration efforts, working closely with software engineering and firmware teams to ensure optimal camera performance. Establish robust testing and verification processes to guarantee camera hardware design quality and reliability while also fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence within the camera hardware team.
