The Pennington School seeks a teacher of Latin to instruct classes in Grades 6-12, collaborate with colleagues to strengthen interdisciplinary instruction, and facilitate other experiences for student enrichment in the learning of Latin and French language and culture. Essential Duties: Work with colleagues to develop and implement an action plan based on the findings of the department self-assessment conducted during the 2021-22 academic year and use this assessment to create a future vision for the World Languages program with regard to these languages Stay current in the academic field to ensure use of up-to-date pedagogy, current materials, and best practices Work to elicit individual excellence in every student, moving the student toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding Embrace student-centered teaching practices and backward design in curriculum planning Favor a linguistic communicative approach where permanent interactions promote higher proficiency levels of students Further develop and implement a Latin curriculum which connects the history and culture of Italy to the world we live in Help promote French and Francophone cultures as a cornerstone of one's teaching practice Demonstrate warmth, collegiality, humor, and industry in interactions with students, colleagues, and parents Demonstrate professionalism and commitment to working in and fostering the Pennington School community After-school coaching, activity, or equivalent Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Classical Studies or related subject area; master's degree preferred Minimum of three years' experience teaching and proven ability to teach all levels of classical languages to Upper and/or Middle School students Excellent written and oral communication skills in the classic languages as well as English; full command of Latin Experience teaching French and native or near-native proficiency in French is a plus Experience with various cultures from work or study abroad and commitment to making culture a fundamental part of one's teaching practice Experience integrating technology into the curriculum Experience/willingness to lead at least two extracurricular and/or athletic endeavors Experience organizing trips abroad with students Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Enthusiasm for working with students in and out of the classroom Desire to be an active member of a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion Interest in a boarding school environment Ability to work with a variety of learning styles A positive attitude, a growth mindset, and a sense of humor This position is full-time and exempt from overtime.
