The firm seeks an experienced Tax Associate to join the modern and diverse public accounting firm. The firm’s Tax Department provides tax advisory and tax planning services, handles complex tax filings (e. g. non-resident filings), and supports the rest of the firm. Unlike other firms, our Tax Department is not responsible for the tax filings of the entire firm. We are an advisory and tax planning driven Tax Department. This would be ideal for a candidate who wishes to have a career in tax and wants to grow with the firm. An ideal candidate may have recently completed their Canadian CPA at a small to midsize accounting firm and is looking to move into a dedicated tax role. There will be support and encouragement for the candidate to enroll in the CPA in-depth tax program. Responsibilities: • Performing preliminary research into income and indirect tax issues; • Preparation of complex and/or specialty tax returns (e. g. deceased returns, multi-jurisdictional filings, treaty-based tax returns, filings for non-residents); • Completing a variety of specialty tax forms (eg. T2057, T2054, T2062); • Communicating with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on behalf of our clients; • Preparing objections and voluntary disclosures; • Analysis and completion of corporate, personal, partnership, and trust income tax returns; • Year-end tax planning analysis; • Attend weekly tax group meetings. Experience: • Possess a recently acquired Canadian accounting designation (CPA)• Enrollment in, or willingness to enroll in the CPA In-depth tax program• Experience with owner-managed businesses considered an asset• Have a keen interest and desire to work in Canadian personal and corporate tax• Experience using Tax Prep (Personal, Corporate, Trust, and Forms) is desirable• Demonstrate well-developed analytical and research skills, together with attention to detail• Be committed to providing exceptional client service• Ability to handle multiple assignments, work independently.
