Summary This vacancy announcement is being used to fill one vacancy at each of the locations listed. The incumbent serves as the supervisory physician with accountability for the service unit clinical/administrative/management services. Duties Routine duties shall include providing medical care and public health services to individuals eligible for services provided by the Indian Health Service. Responsible for urgent, preventative, chronic and progressive care to pediatric, geriatric, adolescent, and adult patients. Treat the full range of family practice cases, referring only the most difficult cases to specialists in other areas of clinical medicine. Reviews departmental productivity and work product/evaluations made by supervisors using productivity measures for the department. Develops and coordinates the internal review of the Clinical Services departments, in consultation and coordination with Area Clinical Director, to assure that all clinical and administrative activities are in compliance with requirements of accrediting organizations, regulatory groups, as well as higher echelons with the Indian Health Service. Where deficiencies are found, initiates corrective action, or where appropriate, recommends such actions. Degree from Foreign Medical School A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the . A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the , (AMA) or . A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.Applicants who meet the above Basic Requirements qualify for GS-11 (or equivalent) positions. Additional Requirements for Grades GS-12 and Above For GS-15: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of Family Medicine/Family Practice. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of specialized experience at the GS-15 Level Participate in formulation of policies, programs and procedures related to clinical and affiliate services. Develop, implement and review clinical service plans and programs to meet changing needs of the patient population. Provide supervision to physicians, mid-level providers and other clinical staff. Knowledge and ability to oversee budgets for hospitals and clinics including annual reviews. Collaborate with Management and Administrative staff in compliance of accreditation requirements.
