Questions before applying? 785-966-XXXX Role: The Summer Intern will perform various duties to support the preservation and maintenance of the Potawatomi Language including but not limited to digitization of language documentation, database maintenance, audio/video recording. The benefits to the intern are exciting and important. They include working with a great team of Language and Culture enthusiasts who care deeply about preserving and revitalizing Potawatomi Language and Culture, learning the ins and outs of developing learning materials, helping to produce lesson plans, and learning materials (worksheets, crosswords, games, etc.). In return the intern should bring essential skills to this position: excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently on important projects, and most importantly, a strong interest in the Potawatomi Language and Culture. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all minimum requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Minimum Requirements: Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance Experience: Two years of training in Potawatomi Language. Education: HS Diploma/GED. Enrolled in college or university with minimum 2.6 GPA. Interpersonal Skills: Normal courtesy in dealing with others is required. Work involves minimal contacts, usually within the department. Contact usually involves routine, non-sensitive issues. External contacts are limited to incidental contacts with visitors, or not contact. Knowledge: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning an spelling of words, rules, composition, and grammar. Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms and workplace terminology Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Including customer needs, assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction Skills : Microsoft office (Excel, Word, Access) Knowledge of graphics and Photo Imaging software (Adobe Photoshop) Understands written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents. Demonstrates maturity, dependability, judgment, and empathy in job performance. Gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting. Monitors/Assesses performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action. Communicates effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience. Abilities : Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet) Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects. Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns or numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations). Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Ability to learn the Potawatomi language, lifestyle, and culture.
