Position Overview Our structured cabling technician handles responsibilities related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of cable systems and associated hardware. In this role, the duties will require the use of hand and power tools as well as working in small spaces and from various heights. Examples of responsibilities are - installation of pathway systems (cable management), connection of hardware, testing and troubleshooting of connections, Software upgrades of products (When or if needed), providing customer support, assisting with manufacturer warranties, and maintaining proper documentation. The structured cable technician will work with various telecommunications at the point where the service provider ends, using todays standards of CAT6 (copper) and fiber when appropriate. Job Responsibilities ยท Installation of Network cabling (CAT) and associated hardware. Including, but not limited to -IT Racking, Routers, Network switching, Wifi, Patch panels, Battery backups, Alarm systems, Access Control systems, Camera systems, White noise systems & Conference Room Systems. Cable Management of all the above items as needed. Terminating Fiber optic cabling is a plus but is not required. Use power tools to create and modify cable paths. Willingness to work evenings & weekends as required. Ability to carry heavy loads as needed. Carry and climb ladders as needed. Maintain a safety conscious work environment. Tests and troubleshoots problems with structured cabling systems. Assists with computer moves and other large computer related projects. Documentation: Maintains record of onsite times and materials used on a job (if any). Proper Documentation of activities, solutions delivered, & issues resolved. Provides as built documents for cabling jobs (where needed). Performs training of other cable technicians (where needed) Education/Certification: High School graduate NYS Low voltage License (Preferred, but not required) Acceptable Experience: Previous Electrical or Low Voltage cabling knowledge 1+ years of network/telecom cabling installation Example of Previous Experience - Spectrum, Verizon, AT&T, Frontier, First light, A/V or Alarm Specialists Knowledge of: CAT, Fiber Optics, POTS, Coaxial cabling Industry knowledge of network, camera, access control and alarm systems preferred. Not all are required, but at least 1 is preferred. Skills/Abilities (Including, but not limited to): Demonstrate initiative & Independent judgment. Ability to work under high pressure situations, adapt to rapidly changing work environments & utilize established company procedures to address client needs. Ability to work off hours and participate in on-call as needed. Ability to go on-site for installations; interact with clients in a professional manner. Ability to be a trusted advisor to clients; effectively relay information to non-technical clients in a confident, reassuring, and patient manner. Ability to manage competing demands and deal with frequent change(s), delays, or unexpected events. Ability to lift over 50 lbs. Basic cabling skills, power tool use and safety practices. Ability to troubleshoot and detect issues quickly. Written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and understand technical manuals. Maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and coworkers. Possess a valid driver's license.
