The Achievement Center recognizes that every student learns and processes information differently. Through the use of student-centered curriculum and individualized strategies, the Achievement Center provides a bridge and support to help students achieve their individualized goals. Our college-level classes and student-centered approach empowers our students to find the right learning tools for them. To meet their goals, the Achievement Center has created academically inclusive and specialized classes include instruction in: Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking Writing and Research Public Speaking and College Presentations Employment and Career strategies Interpersonal Communication Social Skills Training Functional Mathematics College Planning and Strategies Through these series of classes, it offers our students an opportunity to "learn their voice" and acclimate themselves to the classroom and college experience. Each student learns differently and demonstrates their knowledge of class material in various ways. The Achievement Center helps students identify their study habits; note-taking skills; self-advocacy in the classroom and on campus; and learn advantages to student planning and time management. Job Description: This position is employed by The Achievement Center, ARC of Somerset and all interested candidates will need to apply directly to Bob Hulit, Director of Post Secondary Programming. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director of Post-Secondary Programming create and develop strategies, skills, tools, and techniques in order to effectively teach science, technology, engineering, and math to students. To create and facilitate The Achievement Center (TAC) science and technology academic programs. Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the curriculum for technology, engineering, and science programs. Work as an Instructor for TAC STEM classes, which involves creating curriculum/syllabus, lecture topics, grading, dissemination of class information, and providing academic feedback to students on outcomes and performance. Produce reports based on semester attendance, individual student transcripts, grading, and graduation rate/progress for all TAC students assigned. Build and disseminate Academic-based program information with prospective students and educational stakeholders, DDD Support Coordinators, and families through email, mailing, social platforms, and web-based communication. Must cooperate with any regulating entity including the Division of Developmental Disabilities and Department staff in any inspection or investigation. Develop course syllabi or curricula overviews on an as-needed basis using a variety of technological applications and online resources. Enhance productivity and learning opportunities through technology. Identify learning applications and tools to enhance or progress or maintain current knowledge of developments in the STEM/STEAM model and science and technology overall. Supervise and ensure the safety of students in class, while maintaining good verbal and written communication skills. Assist the Director of Post-Secondary Programming in organizing post-secondary education events to stakeholders. As well as work as an ambassador to present information on The Achievement Center program to prospective students and families, Support Coordinators, and other stakeholders at Job Fairs, Open Houses, and other educational events. Adherence to Grantmaker requirements and reporting. Perform other duties as required by the nature of the position or as requested by Supervisor. Must cooperate with the Licensee and Department staff in any inspection or investigation. Requirements: Qualifications Requirements: Bachelor's degree in education or STEM/STEAM field. Minimum 2 years' experience with adults/young adults with special needs and I/DD in an educational setting. Further education or alternate experience may be considered where relevant. Must possess a valid NJ driver's license and/ or be considered insurable by the Agency's auto insurance carrier. Must be capable and willing to drive different types of vehicles (i.e.: car or van). Must work with minimal supervision. Good professional judgment is needed for interaction with consumers, staff, parents, the community, other professionals, and family members. Must be able to complete all required documentation and logs. Strong verbal and written skills in English required to communicate effectively with staff at all levels as well as consumers, families, and outside agency personnel. WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: The Candidate should be able to support a classroom of maximum allowable enrollment of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Additional Information: LOCATION: As per the need of the service; generally, work is performed at The Achievement Center on the campus of Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC). Some participation is in the community at stakeholder locations, such as high schools and transition fairs. SALARY RANGE: As per the Agency salary guide.
