Purpose: Lincoln University of Missouri in Jefferson City, Missouri is actively seeking a dynamic and creative individual to apply for the position of Assistant Professor. This role involves developing a high-impact, nationally recognized Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program as an extension State Specialist. The primary focus is implementing this research-based program state-wide to benefit agricultural farmers. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, full benefit-eligible position, with 100% extension responsibilities. Essential Job Functions: The selected individual will spearhead the development of a research based IPM program, emphasizing sustainable and organic vegetable and small fruit production and marketing. Responsibilities include submitting grant proposals, securing extramural funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and disseminating research based educational information through various media channels. Produce and disseminate educational resource materials and publications (e.g., fact sheets, guide sheets, educational booklets, articles in Extension newsletters and other periodicals) as well as publish peer-reviewed articles in professional journals, such as the Journal of Extension. Collaborative programs and projects with faculty within the University and other institutions are encouraged. The incumbent will provide in-service education training, collaborate with state specialists, extension educators, Lincoln University Coopertive Extension (LUCE) satellite office professionals and volunteers, and cultivate relationships with diverse community, state, and federal agencies. Comply with all Extension federal, state, and university reporting requirements. Perform other duties as assigned by Extension Administrator(s). Additional Duties and Responsibilities: In-Depth Knowledge of IPM and Compliance The State Extension Specialist is expected to possess a robust understanding of integrated pest management theory and practice. This includes knowledge of industry standards for pest control methods and materials, as well as staying updated on federal, state, and local EPA regulations related to pesticide use. Continuous awareness of associated human and environmental risks is essential for compliance. Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in entomology, or closely related to the position description. Minimum qualifications include two years of work experience in IPM methodology, strong communication skills, computer proficiency, and experience with diverse audiences. The ability to produce educational materials, conduct quality research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and secure extramural funding is crucial. Qualifications include experience with distance learning, social media outreach, urban agriculture, documented success in securing non-federal extramural funding. Preferred qualifications include proficiency in Spanish or other languages. Technical and Communication Skills: The role necessitates proficiency in preparing various documents and utilizing computer systems. Strong written, oral, and reading communication skills are essential for accurately obtaining, interpreting, and recording pest management solutions. Effective and innovative teaching strategies that engage target audiences. Proficient in using computer systems, office productively software, and extension-specific tools for data collection and analysis. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Preferred qualifications include: Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) Certified Professional Agronomist (CPAg) Pesticide Applicator Certification Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Certification Ability to integrate new and emerging technology into educational strategies. Driver's License: The State Extension Specialist must possess and maintain a current driver's license, as this is crucial for fulfilling job duties that may involve travel and fieldwork. Physical Demands: The position involves fieldwork in all weather conditions. Lifting or carrying objects (up to 20 lbs.) Possible exposure to pesticides, allergens, and animal waste. Farm equipment and crop restraining and handling.
