Whispering Pines Preschool is now accepting applications for the position of Special Education Teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. New York State Certification in Special Education (Student with Disabilities Birth to 2nd Grade) is required. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of Whispering Pines Preschool, an understanding and respect for children and families from diverse groups, and experience working in pediatric settings. A solid knowledge base and strong desire for working with children with intensive needs (autism, high sensory/behavioral needs, non-traditional classroom setting/self-contained classroom leadership) is preferred.The Special Education teacher reports to the Site Supervisor and to the Executive Director. Job responsibilities include working individually and in groups with children in special education classrooms, conducting evaluations as part of a multidisciplinary team, writing comprehensive reports, presenting information at Committee on Preschool Special Education meetings, and participating in or completing observations in school or home settings. The ability to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team is essential. Qualified candidates must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with families, staff, other professionals, and personnel from other agencies. Whispering Pines Preschool employees enjoy the benefits of working with a dynamic team of professionals and the flexibility of following a school year calendar with a six week program in the summer.
