Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory, boarding and day school with enrollment of 770 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California . The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach. The Lower/Middle Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stevenson is a mission driven school that aims to help students shape joyful lives while instilling a passion for learning and achievement to prepare them for success in school and beyond. Stevenson School is seeking a Spanish Language Instructor, Grades 5-8 , to join our world languages faculty starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will have a high level of content expertise along with prior experience in the development and delivery of a comprehensive curriculum and student-centered lesson plans for the teaching of Spanish to middle school students. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capacity to teach multiple grade and ability levels using proficiency-oriented instruction to foster language acquisition, familiarity with computer assisted language learning and assessment tools, and a commitment to collaborate with colleagues to achieve the highest levels of excellence in curriculum design and classroom instruction. The ideal candidate will engage in meaningful and ongoing professional development in PK-12 language assessment, curriculum design, and classroom instruction. The ideal candidate will have experience and training in classroom management strategies that foster a target-language rich environment. This is a part-time teaching position at the Carmel campus. Responsibilities Include: Teach Spanish language curriculum to students in assigned grade-level sections Collaborate with colleagues on critical inquiry-based curriculum with shared skills alignment and assessment measures, supporting student learning with a variety of pedagogical approaches to facilitate understanding across an array of learning styles Develop students’ critical thinking, intellectual, and social and emotional skills Collaborate with learning specialists and division head to identify and support those students requiring additional resources or enrichment activities to promote optimal learning Contribute talents and skills to the School in additional capacities which may include coaching and/or participation in after-school programming Communicate with students, parents, and colleagues in a timely and professional manner Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in teaching of foreign languages, or related; Master’s preferred Native or near-native Spanish proficiency A minimum of 3-years of previous teaching experience at the secondary level or equivalent professional experience relevant to working with middle school students Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and the target language Experience, familiarity, and a willingness to utilize the ACTFL standards, proficiency guidelines, and can-do statements to guide instruction Excellent classroom management skills Demonstrated confidence and aptitude with the use of instructional technology, such as Google Tools, STAMP language assessment tools, and related resources Proficiency with or ability and desire to to develop proficiency with learning management systems such as Google Classroom Ability to contribute significantly to an established area of co-curricular life, such as coaching at either the junior varsity or varsity level, or club advising, etc. Experience advising middle school students’ academic and social/emotional development Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to connect with all members of the community Demonstrated interest in being part of a collaborative team Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and the integrity of all aspects of information disseminated within or external to the school community Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community The anticipated salary range for this position is $26,000 - $60,000, annually, based on assigned schedule and experience. In addition to competitive salary, Stevenson is pleased to provide a comprehensive benefits package including Anthem Blue Cross health insurance plans and generous retirement plan contributions. Housing support is offered for eligible employees. Resources to support advanced degree work, as well as participation in professional conferences, workshops, summer study, and travel, are also available.
