Linfield University seeks an experienced professional to join the School of Nursing team as a Simulation Operations Specialist II. The Simulation Operations Specialist II is a key member of the Experiential Learning Center (ELC) team and has primary responsibility for adapting emerging technologies to meet the educational outcomes of the School of Nursing curriculum. This position reports directly to the Experiential Learning Center Manager and collaborates with simulation faculty and fellow ELC staff to organize, develop, and implement simulation learning strategies in the ELC. Review of applications will begin immediately and will remain open until filled. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Administration Collaborate with the ELC Manager in determining budgetary priorities for the Simulation center equipment needs. Maintain operational expenditures to match budget projections. Negotiate with vendors and regional consortia to secure optimal prices for manikins and supplies. Maintain schedule of simulation experiences in coordination with the ELC Manager and other users. Coordinate planning of simulation with various teaching teams. Develop and maintain database systems to track: Simulation scenarios Simulation setup requirements and costs Quarterly reports of simulations, simulation demonstrations, consultations, & trainees Contact information for technology vendors, e.g. Laerdal, CAE Healthcare, and others Evaluations for courses and training sessions Records and files of presentations used by ELC team members Coordinate student work-study ELC assistants in partnership with ELC Lab Coordinator and ELC Manager, including scheduling and day-to-day management. Simulation Teaching Collaborate with simulation faculty, ELC Manager, other Simulation Operations Specialists, and Simulation Faculty to create simulation environments. Prepare simulations and make adjustments to equipment, simulated drugs, props, and other environmental variables. Collaborate with simulation faculty and ELC Manager in the orientation and training of actors and simulation users in the control room before and during simulations. Operate cameras and other audiovisual equipment during scenarios and debriefings. Act in patient and auxiliary health care roles. Assist with rapid patient and environmental changeovers between simulations. Participate in debriefings to provide technical support or to share observations as requested by simulation faculty. Assist in the organization and distribution of simulation-related course materials to students & faculty as requested by simulation faculty. Technology / Audiovisual Integration Assist in planning new technology upgrades and purchases in coordination with the ELC Manager, simulation faculty, and fellow ELC staff. Install and maintain simulation equipment and ensure manikin functionality. Troubleshoot and find solutions for computer and Audio/Visual problems in the ELC. Oversee videotaping and playback of simulations for courses and special programs. Create and organize archiving of teaching videos. Produce and edit videos of scenarios and debriefings for program development and marketing purposes. Program Promotion, Outreach and Community Relationships In collaboration with the ELC Manager and simulation faculty, participates in writing and administering grants to support simulation teaching. Manage website and develop simulation lab brochures and other marketing materials in collaboration with University marketing, Deans of School of Nursing, and ELC Manager. Collaborate with ELC Manager to manage ELC website and online calendars. Participate in University recruitment events (prospective student tours, Hispanic Family Day, etc.) Present at regional and national conferences (SimOps, IMSH, etc.) to report on Linfield's experience and successes with simulation in nursing education. Contribute to local and regional simulation roundtable meetings. Simulation User Development Develop plan for simulation operations training for faculty and staff users of the ELC, including: Manikin operation and troubleshooting Simulation software use, programming, and troubleshooting Simulation scenario implementation, including managing environmental variables, changeovers, medication labels, charting, etc. Program Evaluation Work with ELC Manager and simulation faculty to implement plans for overall ELC simulation evaluations. Participate in post-simulation staff debriefings in coordination with simulation faculty and/or ELC Manager. Other Responsibilities Work with ELC Manager in data-gathering and research for ELC function, scheduling, practices, and techniques. Other duties as assigned by the ELC Manager. Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification required within the first two years of hire. Qualifications: Education Bachelor's degree in educational or computer technology required (or associate degree in media, computer technology, or communications and minimum one year of applied educational technology experience). Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification strongly preferred. Experience Extensive experience in computer technology and troubleshooting required. Minimum one year leadership experience in development and implementation of educational technology; health care simulation technology preferred. Ability to adapt emerging technologies to meet varied educational outcomes. Proficient in video production, presentation, spreadsheet, and database applications. Proficient in simulation data management systems. Advanced knowledge of audiovisual equipment installation, use, and troubleshooting. Strict attention to detail. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Proficient in MS Office. Excellent verbal and written communication. Ability to be proficient as an equipment super-user within six months of hire (eg., glucometer trainings, manikin setup, EMS system use). Preferred Qualifications Familiar with equipment, supplies, and medical terminology Healthcare simulation experience Experience in operating in both Windows and Macintosh platforms Job Complexity Work requires complex technical and interpersonal skills. Work requires ability to effectively multitask in a dynamic, high pressure environment. Work performed includes complex tasks covered by broad practices or procedures, with considerable judgment and independent decisions required.
