EMERGENCY POSTING Sessional Instructional Assistant FSC320H5S-Forensic Psychopathology The following Emergency Sessional Instructional Assistant position in the Forensic Science Program, Department of Anthropology at UTM is open for applications for the Winter 2024 session: RATE OF PAY: Effective September 1, 2024 the minimum hourly rate shall be: $52.26 COURSE: FSC320H5S - Forensic Psychopathology COURSE DESCRIPTION: Pathology is the study of disease and psychopathology is the study of mental illness. In Forensic Psychopathology, then, we make inquiries about mental illness in the context of forensic practices. In this course, we will explore multiple topics in the field providing the student with a general insight into its history, scientific merits, and practical relevance. We will survey prevailing theories on mental health, illness, and treatment. Investigate psychiatric diagnoses such as (juvenile) Conduct Disorder, Antisocial Personality Disorder, and Psychopathy, hereunder their application and relevance in risk backssment, behavior prediction, and offender rehabilitation. We will also discuss methodological, ethical, and legal issues in the field, for example, the scientific validity of psychiatric diagnostics, the ethical implications of using psychiatric backssments in forensic institutions, and the legal responsibility of mentally ill offenders. COURSE ENRLLMENT: 60 NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 2 SIZE OFAPPOINTMENT: 50 hours each APPOINTMENT DATES: January 1, 2024 - APril 30, 2024 LECTURES: Wednesday 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (in-person) PRACTICALS: None QUALIFICATIONS: A Masters degree (completed) in one of the forensic sub discipline fields [ANT, BIO, CHM, PSY] with substantial science course background at the graduate level and a background in Forensic Science is required.
