Position Summary: Airbus U.S. Space & Defense is a trusted U.S. government partner for industry leading satellite, geospatial intelligence and cyber capabilities, secure communications, space exploration missions, military helicopters, unmanned aerial systems, and fixed wing aircraft. Our portfolio of state-of-the-art technologies, research and development, and subject matter expertise provide the U.S. Department of Defense, National Security Agencies, and Space focused partners the best solutions for their critical missions. Reporting directly to the COO, you will run the Quality and Mission Assurance function for Airbus U.S., assuring the integrity of deliveries, and implementing processes and tools to ensure on-quality delivery. Deliver design for quality assurance throughout the operational lifecycle; moderate conflicting points, resolve challenges and ensure deliverables meet specified contractual standards. Drive business certification activity (e.g., AS9100) to ensure the business conforms to requirements and delivers continual improvement. Special focus will be on the development of processes around mission assurance for Airbus U.S.'s growing space business. Airbus U.S. manufactures small satellites, in partnership with its joint-venture subsidiary, Airbus OneWeb Satellites, in Merritt Island, Florida. Position Responsibilities: Quality Assurance: Strategy, Planning, and Execution: 40% Set-up and Manage a Quality Assurance organization across Airbus U.S through the integration of existing quality resources into one seamless organization with key new hires subject to available resources. Overall responsibility for Quality activities across the business. Create and implement best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance, including obtaining needed certifications (e.g., ISO9001/AS9100) and putting in place a Quality Management System (QMS) Ensure that quality strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets Update procedures and train team members where required Ensure documentation, records, manuals, processes, procedures, and policies are current, audited, and retrievable. Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities Develop corrective and preventative actions to prevent non-conformances, support customer complaints, concession and rework alongside Manufacturing/ Engineering and Operations to within required time-frame. Ensure effective internal and external audits happen as well as assessment and audit of subcontractors Ensure that corrective actions are delivered and non-compliance issues are resolved on time Review customer surveys and complaints to impress the customer and elevate the customer experience Satellite Manufacturing Mission Assurance: 30% Lead Mission Assurance activities, including design of overall approach/philosophy on mission assurance, based on the development of a commercial approach to manufacturing satellite busses, including: Quality Assurance Reliability Engineering Parts Engineering System Safety Engineering Material and Process Engineering Contamination and Control Collaborate and partner with program management, engineering, manufacturing, and operations functions, including key subsidiaries and external customer, while performing independent assurance evaluations to ensure program performance, quality, cost, and schedule requirements are met Lead Material Review Board and Failure Review Board activities as required Active participation in design, production/test readiness, and other reviews and audits with the ability to make risk-informed decisions for mission success Lead the identification, mitigation, and communication of mission assurance status and risks to mission success Bid Support: 15% Support Airbus U.S bids & proposals through competitive request for proposals Continuous Improvement 10% Implement new quality processes and systems where appropriate Support a Design for Quality, inspection, manufacturability, and testability philosophy within capital and program investments. Assist in continuous improvement activities throughout the business ensuring that problems are prevented and that customer requirements are met with any problems resolved effectively and economically Additional Responsibilities: 5% Other duties as assigned: This position is not intended to be all-inclusive, and the employee will also perform other tasks as assigned. Qualified Experience / Skills / Training: Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Engineering/Science related field, or equivalent experience Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration or Engineering/Science related field, or equivalent experience Experience: Required: Proven record of achievement in one of the following disciplines: Engineering, Operations or Quality 12+ years' experience in Aerospace Quality/Quality Systems with extensive experience in Quality Systems, Quality Engineering, Inspection, Suppliers, Process Development, Audits, Customers, and Regulatory affairs ISO-9001/AS9100 experience Experience in satellite manufacturing and mission assurance Experience with configuration management practices Knowledge of processes, requirements management and engineering and project life cycles and their application. Experience delivering within a multi-functional and/or multinational teams to achieve our goals. Experience delivering improvement actions/projects Preferred: 5+ years in a management role and proven track record of achievement in Engineering, Operations, or Quality environment with Change Management leadership in Continuous Improvement, PPS, Innovation, Lean and Six Sigma data Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities: Excellent communication and listening skills Ability to summarize complex industrial situations in a clear manner. Highly organized with attention to detail Team player to collaborate with lines of business and functional partners like IT, Finance, HR, Contracts, etc Demonstrated capability to distill and articulate complex Federal regulations and internal Engineering/Quality requirements for shop floor execution and executive awareness Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Presentation, Proficiency in Other Languages): Fluency in both verbal and written English required Technical Systems Proficiency: Software fluency in MS Office Products, including proficiency with Teams Jira PLM / configuration management tool Sharepoint Travel Required: 20-30% Domestic & International Eligibility: US Citizenship Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a TS security clearance required Nature of Contacts: Role includes involved, influence and negotiation type communication with internal and external parties on a regular basis. Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 20lbs/9kg Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 20lbs/9kg. Pushing / Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas. Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer. Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves Standing: able to stand for long periods of time. Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces.
