The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year. The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens. Job Purpose Perform maintenance duties and provide labor assistance to the tradesmen in the Facilities Management organization on various District buildings and preserve amenities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work with paint crew on various preserve amenities Assist tradesmen on projects and repairs that require labor assistance (painting, carpentry, excavations, signage, masonry, fence and bridge repairs, etc.) Custodial duties and work site and shop organization and housekeeping. Picnic table fabrication and maintenance Vegetative maintenance Assist with the loading and unloading of vans and trucks with materials and equipment. Perform other duties as required Education and Experience Required Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment. Will need to bring own lunch for working in the field. Safety boots required, reimbursement available. All other PPE provided. Starting Pay: $16.00-17.00 an hour Hours: May - September; Monday-Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm Preferred Experience: Familiarity with small hand and power tools preferred Special training or other license, certification, etc.: Must have a valid Driver's License. Skills In: Understanding and following of oral and written instructions; fundamental use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools and equipment associated with various trade work; performing manual labor related to the support of maintenance and trade activities; understanding of personal protection equipment.
