Sheakley is currently seeking a safety specialist for our client in Washington, DC. Our client is one of the nation's leading government contracting firms. Compensation Package: $46/HR No perdiem so ideally someone local Staffing Type: 1099 contract Project Duration: 1-2 years Scope of Work: Government contract looking for a safety specialist to assist with general safety oversight of their site. Project Location: Washington, DC Project Hours/Schedule: M-F 730a-400p 40Hrs/WK Contractor Certification Requirements: Ideal candidate has experience with general industry and likes doing policy development (paperwork). Principal Duties & Responsibilities : Develop and update required safety PowerPoint training for site staff with the Safety Officer, in accordance with the site Safety Manual. New Staff orientation training Site Safety Committee Training Site JHA Training Track completion of various safety training Conduct safety walk-throughs of the MSC facility to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and the Site Safety Manual. Document any safety issues of a deficiency log and communicate with the Safety Office on any immediate safety issues. Submit work tickets for any facility-related safety issues. Attend safety committee meetings Update meeting minutes and notes Overlook and update the Medical Surveillance program and documents. Including respiratory protection and hearing conservation Assist in internal Management Evaluation & Technical Review (METR) inspections with NMNH Safety Office and Site METR team Walk with METR team and Safety Office. Take notes on deficiencies for later updates. Correcting and updating deficiencies after a METR inspection in an Site Database (METR manager) Assist on updating lab safety plans, job hazard analysis, and chemical inventories Standardize various safety programs and forms Purchasing - market research, data entry and follow-up (must have Microsoft Excel experience of 2 years or more) Reviewing web page content and updating documents for grammar, spelling, and flow Perform record keeping as needed Organizing and inventorying supplies Filing, file maintenance, and archiving, including digital files (PDF, Excel, Word, etc.) and archives. Qualifications/Education/ Experience: Three to five years of related experience in construction health and safety training and consultation experience is required. Requirements BCSP Certification - Nice to have OSHA 10 and/or 30 Solid knowledge of EHS standards, and industry regulatory standards in construction, with the ability to communicate such standards to others. 3-5 years of construction safety and health experience. Excellent public speaking abilities. Energetic, ambitious, assertive, and an excellent communicator. OSHA outreach training experience preferred. Able to meet deadlines, and work independently without direct supervision, as well as in a team environment. OSHA and regulatory safety training experience. Skills, Specialized Knowledge, and Abilities Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain a high level of confidentiality Outgoing personality, self-motivated Excellent customer service, telephone, electronic, and written communication skills. Analyze and recommend improvements for safe work practices, policies, and training programs. Technical experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel. Use of standard office equipment. Organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and strong ability to multi-task interfacing with multiple client situations on any given workday. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment without direct supervision. Must embrace a team-based, initiative-driven environment. Effectively work with others to build consensus and rapport Work conditions are typically warehouse, clinical, manufacturing facilities, construction projects, and field conditions.
