In this role, you will design the roadway portion of complex transportation improvement projects and coordinate the overall continuity of contract plans, specifications and estimates for projects. A day in the life: Design and prepare the roadway portion of plans, special provisions and estimates for difficult and complex projects.Consult with and coordinate project design, specification activities and contract plan designs with staff in the unit, other sections and other agencies.Provide technical support for the resident engineer during construction.Provide grades, review contractor submittals and make recommendations on proposed design changes.Coordinate, review and check field location data and preliminary designs for compliance with state and federal standards.Plan, assign, direct and review the work of other designers in the preparation of contract plans and assist with training designers.Work with technicians to produce base sheets, make revisions and produce final plans.Prepare and evaluate design alternatives for complex projects and determine which to select.Work is performed in an office environment and requires occasional field scoping, inspection trips and attending meetings throughout the region. Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire. Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
