Description:

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) or Surgical Tech First Assistant (SDTFA)the Operating Room shall provide therapeutic and quality nursing care to all patients during the pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases. The RN will be licensed by the state of Illinois to practice professional nursing within the statutory requirements of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. In addition; the Certified Scrub First Assistant is an individual with acceptable preparation as a Surgical Technologist who, based on the hospital and departmental policies and procedures performs scrub technician responsibilities as needed.Evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures. Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires a Bachelors degree or Certified Scrub First Assistant and is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. The RNFA and CSFA must communicate clearly and concisely both orally and written. Both must maintain confidentiality concerning the personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, employees, and their families. Demonstrates a positive attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Understand and follow established Hospital and Departmental policies and procedures. Recognize critical and obvious changes in patients condition and react promptly. Maintain composure during stressful situations and organize and complete assigned work. Complete orientation program and on-going education in accordance with established policies and procedures. During orientation perform duties as defined by Director/Coordinator, Clinician and mentor. Perform other duties as determined by Director/Coordinator. Serves as mentor to newly hired staff and ancillary staff.
