" These words still guide every employee, every day. Our guiding mission is to help kids and their families' transition from hospital to home. That means we practice world-class pediatric medicine to treat the symptoms but we also train parents and caregivers to provide a high-level of care at home so patients continue to progress after discharge "Care Beyond the Bedside" means that our kids receive their therapies and rehab away from their rooms and out of their beds as much as 70% of the day. The rest of the time, they are playing just being kids in our state of the art facility designed to inspire children! JOB SUMMARY: A Respiratory Therapy Student Intern (RTS) will follow established policies and procedures, render safe, appropriate respiratory care and treatments under the direction of a Supervising Staff Respiratory Therapist for neonatal, pediatric, and/or adolescent patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. An RTS will also be responsible for performing job duties in accordance with policies and mission of Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. Additionally, the RTS protects patients, visitors, and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols. Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure: Yes Shift Requirements: Shifts can be 4,8, or 12 hours in duration and can be worked day, night or weekend. Respiratory Therapy Students must be able to work at least 24 hours in a 6 week period. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Patient Care (60%) Performs the basic functions of a Respiratory Therapist in assessing, planning, implementing, educating, and evaluating a designated group of patients in accordance with established Respiratory Care Standards and Hospital and Departmental Policies under the direct supervision of a licensed RRT. Is responsible for managing all assigned duties, stocking supplies, and cleaning equipment in the hospital or on their assigned unit and for promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team. Perform airway clearance therapies under appropriate supervision Deliver aerosolized medications under appropriate supervision Initiate and maintain oxygen therapy systems under appropriate supervision All other duties assigned. Communication (20%) Uses clear, concise, and legible documentation of information in the medical record. Provides accurate, concise, and on-going report to Supervising RRT and team members. Always maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients and other protected health information. Consistently creates and contributes to an exceptional patient experience by establishing a compassionate environment through timely responses to patients' needs, practicing open communication, while consistently providing physical, emotional, and psychological support to patients and caregivers. Miscellaneous (20%) Functions as a member of the team measured by active participation in department initiatives, unit meetings, committees, and special projects. Functions within the standards set forth by the Clinical Services Department and Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. Delivers quality patient care under the supervision of a RRT in the safest manner possible. May assist in patient transport as directed and supervised by staff RRT. Attends in service educational opportunities when available. Maintains the latest on new and changing procedures in the respiratory care field. All other duties as assigned by the Respiratory Therapy Manager or Director QUALIFICATIONS: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program that will award an Associate of Science degree or a Bachelor's degree in Science or equivalent. Must have current BLS. Has a current Temporary Permit or Temporary Educational Permit through the Missouri Board for Respiratory Care PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Frequent lifting/carrying/repositioning/gripping and pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 35 lbs. Frequent sitting, standing, bending, stooping, walking (including stairs), reaching (forward and below waist) and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. Frequent keyboard use/data entry Occasional kneeling, squatting, twisting, and/or reaching overhead Rare lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
