Title : Researcher II - Molecular Biologist Location : Silver Spring, MD Status : Full-Time (On-Site) Position Summary: The objective is to provide scientific support for new and ongoing research programs within DARS as described above. These projects require an individual at the Scientist III level with a Ph.D. degree in biology, pharmaceutical sciences or related discipline and 8+ years of electrophysiology/manual patch clamp experience in academia or industry developing and/or applying this method to study ion channel function/pharmacology in overexpression cell lines and native cells in the body. Duties/Responsibilities: Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives for laboratory processes and will work collaboratively with other lab staffs to implement changes. Work with the laboratory lead to manage the laboratory such as receipt and inspection of materials and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. Work with the laboratory lead to develop and validate new methods and to improve methodology, with a specific focus on molecular detection using arrays and NGS sequencing. In collaboration with laboratory lead, interpret molecular tests and communicate results. Plan, develop, operate, record, collaborate and report all steps of method development, validations and/ or updated processes or platforms for both molecular biology and sequencing. Troubleshoot method and instrumentation problems; be proactive in solving technical issues and problems Minimum Requirements: PhD and/or MSc in Molecular Biology or related field. Strong technical and scientific background in current molecular biology methods including RT-PCR/PCR, and DNA/RNA sequencing platforms. More than 6 years technical experience (after graduation) in research laboratories. Training, and experience in handling human biospecimens in a biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) environment. Ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and validate experiments without supervision. Ability to support technical programs through training of other lab staffs, writing reports, and analysis in addition to administrative tasks such as filing, Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills; previous experience with any LIMS. Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude. Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instruction from the lead, and comply with division/center policies. Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or VISA sponsorship. Preferred expertise includes some or all the following: Cell culture (suspensions, monolayers, 2D and 3D). RNA/DNA/protein quantification. PCR- and array-based technology. Molecular cloning including bacterial transformation. In vitro drug testing. Reporter gene assays ELISA, Western and antibody-mediated protein knock-down. DNA/RNA sequencing platforms (e.g., next-generation sequencing [NGS] and/or single molecule real-time sequencing [SMRT]), and bioinformatic skill. Genomic, methylomic, transcriptomic, metabolomics, and/or proteomic analyses.
