General Description The Grant Writing and Research Associate works under the direction of firm’s principals and project managers to provide services to communities, Tribal entities, businesses, local and statewide agencies and organizations. Depending on the needs of the client, the Associate may directly engage in or support a wide range of activities including research, writing, interviews, data analysis, document creation, mapping and graphic concept development, business and feasibility planning, strategic planning and stakeholder engagement and facilitation in the fields of community health, community and regional planning, the humanities and community development. This position primarily supports principles and project managers based in Agnew::Beck’s Anchorage, and Boise offices. We prefer candidates physically located in Alaska or Boise but may consider employees who prefer to telecommute from any location and may work on projects and with teams located at various Agnew::Beck locations. Many of the projects this position will engage in will benefit from a strong understanding of federal funding opportunities, grant writing, housing and economic analysis, public health, and community infrastructure, particularly in Alaska. Examples of Project Types: • Grant writing• Market studies, including economic and demographic research to support multiple projects• Community needs assessments for child care, housing, health care, or other services• Public finance plans• Financial feasibility studies and pro forma analysis• Business planning for community facilities, housing or other development projects• Community surveys• Workshop facilitation and community outreach Minimum Education/Experience Requirements The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in planning, policy, business, economics, community and economic development, rural development, Tribal planning, and/or related fields.• Two years of experience in relevant fields that reflects competency in some combination of communication, documentation, data management, research and analysis, technical writing, project management, stakeholder engagement, physical and human community planning and development.• Experience and ability working directly with people from a variety of backgrounds and incorporating the perspectives of and considering policy and decision-making impacts on multiple communities, including Alaska Native/American Indian populations and Tribal organizations, rural and remote populations, refugee and immigrant populations, Communities of Color, people who have experienced homelessness, people who have experienced trauma.• A demonstrated understanding of systemic racism and colonization and their impacts on communities; a demonstrated commitment to continual self-education and increasing fluency to communicate effectively about racism and colonization and their effects; and a demonstrated commitment to dismantling them.• Experience working with different communication styles.• The opportunity of Senior Associate may be available for the applicant whose experience exceeds the above-described requirements. A Senior Associate position candidate must be proficient in budget management, client project management and/or program implementation and management. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The successful applicant will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities to support research and data analysis tasks for a range of economic and land use projects and client requests for grant application development and submission: Grant Writing Understanding of the current funding landscape, including:• Federal and State funding programs• National/international and small local foundations• Funding opportunities specific to health and human services, housing, community and economic development, education and humanitiesFamiliarity with:• Federal grant compliance and reporting• Grants.gov, federal agency application portals and foundation funder application portals and processes• Projects or grant writing for public infrastructure development, community economic development, conservation, climate resilience and/or environmental restoration• Projects or grant writing for health, behavioral health, education and/or the humanities• Budget management, business planning and/or program implementation and managementStrong writing skills in developing:• Case Statements• Project background descriptions• Project Narratives• Budget Narratives• Workplans and Methodology descriptions Research Support Experience with:• Collecting, analyzing, and using data to understand context and policy options for local and regional plan efforts or policy analysis• A range of research techniques, including effectively using secondary data sources such as U.S. Census data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other population and economic data.Capacity to:• Assemble salient facts and data into a coherent written narrative, including drafting reports and presentations requiring minimal editing by other staff.• Support and implement community outreach and engagement projects throughout Alaska and in other locations where we work.• Analyze public health data to develop conclusions about population level health trends.Skilled at:• Developing, administering and analyzing surveys.• Using Excel to model financial, demographic and economic data to forecast economic outcomes and/or financial performance.• Skill in graphical presentation of data (e.g. some skills with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator or ability to communicate graphic ideas to trained graphic designers) Compensation & Benefits The following summarizes the benefits provided for an Associate position.• This Associate full-time, hourly position works 35-40 hours per week at a competitive pay (annual pay range is $55,000 to $85,000, depending on experience) with opportunities for annual increases based on cost-of-living increases and individual performance at firm discretion. Our office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with flexibility and remote work available on a pre- approved basis.
