Research Associate, Cancer Clinical Data Science

SUMMARY The successful applicant will perform cancer clinical data science research and operations support with and among a multidisciplinary group of academic investigators across several sites. They will query, clean, and analyze national-level clinical data for practice patterns and cancer outcomes and risks, and may have the opportunity to explore the role of germline and cancer genetics in this setting. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Database ETL and querying Data cleaning Data analysis and visualization Written and verbal communication Scientific literature search and review QUALIFICATIONS Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the safety or health of employee or others. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelors level degree in statistics, computer science, bioinformatics, or other related field, with at least 5 years of relevant career experience; or Masters level degree with 3 years of relevant experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Fluent spoken and written English MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Operational knowledge of algebra and statistics COMPUTER SKILLS Proficiency in SQL, R, SAS, Python REASONING ABILITY Strong sequential logical reasoning required PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and frequently sit. Close and color vision are required. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. LOCATION and ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Primary job location is located on the VA Portland Health Care System campus.
