Summary The Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG) within the Department of Anesthesiology at Michigan Medicine is hiring a Research Specialist. MPOG is a consortium of over 60 hospitals that seeks to improve patient care, through research, quality and education, using electronic health record (EHR) and clinical registry data. Our multidisciplinary Michigan-based team includes anesthesiologists, nurses, data scientists, computer programmers, project managers, epidemiologists and statisticians. We work closely with collaborators at Anesthesiology departments across the country to develop policies, procedures, and the technical infrastructure required to conduct large scale research, create quality improvement initiatives, educate caregivers, and guide healthcare administration. The successful candidate will also work on internal research projects for the Department, working with faculty investigators to address regulatory (eg IRB) and resource questions. The Research Specialist will work closely under the direct supervision of the lead research facilitator at MPOG and the departmental research committee director to foster new and maintain ongoing research projects. It is anticipated that the candidate will become a critical member of the research team and contribute to multiple research initiatives. Excellent medical, dental and vision coverage effective on your very first day 2:1 Match on retirement savings Responsibilities* Develop and execute data extracts using a graphical user interface self-serve data tool and review data outputs Draft, submit and renew Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications Create and maintain documentation for departmental data resources Coordinate meetings (standing and ad hoc) and manage communication with team members and external study teams for departmental and multi-center research projects Track concurrent research projects and facilitating next steps Update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and internal protocol documents, as well as monitor and respond to research inbox inquiries Research team support and organization utilizing various tools and platforms (Planner, OneNote, etc.) Required Qualifications* Bachelors degree in a health-science or related field with at least 4 years of experience in human subject research (e.g. study planning, data collection, data entry) Knowledge of electronic health record data systems, database management software or web-based survey tools Familiarity with the principles and practices of rigorous scientific research and project management including previous experience with IRB applications Highly professional demeanor and positive attitude with outstanding written and oral communication skills Strong attention to detail and concern for information accuracy with strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team effectively in a multicultural and collaborative environment Motivated, organized, and independent individual with excellent ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively Desired Qualifications* Previous experience with project management practices Previous customer service or patient-facing research experience Previous experience developing study protocols or standard operating procedures Work Locations Remote and Arbor Lakes, Ann Arbor, MI Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
