JOB OPENING CITY OF FARMINGTON JOB POSTING #11: RECREATION PROGRAM SUPERVISOR - PROGRAMS NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 1 DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs WORK LOCATION: Rec Center HIRING RANGE: $41,426.7619 - $64,418.9080/Annually PAY GRADE: J Exempt TYPE OF POSITION: Regular, Full-Time DAYS WORKED: Varies HOURS WORKED: Varies APPLICATIONS RECEIVED UNTIL: Until Filled, First Review in 2 Weeks JOB DUTIES This is a supervisory position working with the nationally accredited Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Department. The Department has eleven (11) diverse divisions that are committed to building gateways that enrich our community through exceptional customer focus. This position will provide superior recreation programming for all ages for the department. Under general direction from the Recreation Manager this position develops, manages, coordinates and implements a variety of recreational opportunities including special interest classes, programs and special events for the City of Farmington. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Manager. Using excellent customer service skills establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other department employees, other City personnel, and all members of the general public. Evaluates, develops and implements recreation activities, programs, services, and special events programming for all ages that fulfills the department master plan and vision for the community. Plans, organizes, schedules, and staffs the youth summer recreation program and camps, craft workshops throughout the year, family bingo and activity nights, and holiday events such as the current Boo Palooza, Christmas Craft Fair, Jingle & Mingle Open House, and Tween Twilight Egg Hunt. Works with the Recreation Program Supervisor - Sports division employee and facilitates activities for various special events, including Riverfest 10K & 5K, the Connie Mack World Series, Road Apple Rally Mountain Bike Race, Turkey Trot 5K, Reindeer Romp 5K, Kids' Fishing Derby, etc. Determines and secures materials, equipment, facility, supervision, and instruction needs for each program or event. Utilizes Civic Rec software or similar computer software to register and market classes, programs and special events. Maintains related records and statistics for programs, personnel, and participants involved in sponsored activities. Works closely with the PRCA Marketing Division to coordinate public awareness of programs and events. Recruits, trains, and supervises administrative staff , part‑time recreation staff, special interest instructors, seasonal employees, and volunteers. Performs supervisory duties of the Recreation Center in the absence of the Recreation Manager. Prepares disbursements for special event and program expenses. Assists the Recreation Manager with budget planning and monitoring the budget throughout the year. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, assisting customers, scheduling facilities, typing correspondence, running errands, picking up supplies needed for activities, helping set up tables and chairs for classes, etc. Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS This position is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Program. This includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years. Graduation from a four‑year college or university with a degree in recreation or a closely related field and two years recreation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. First Aid, AED, and CPR certification, or ability to obtain such within six months of hiring. ANSI certified Food Manager preferred, or must be obtained through City classes within 6 months after entry into employment. Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program. Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied and imaginative activities and events involved in a community recreation program. Ability to work various hours as needed to facilitate and supervise programs including evenings and weekends. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff and volunteers. Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to operate tools and equipment listed. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Personal computer, including Microsoft Word software; calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; mobile or portable radio; automobile; various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
