Florida educators must be certified to teach in our public schools and in many of our private schools. Educators include classroom teachers, school administrators, and other support professionals, such as guidance counselors and media specialists. The Bureau of Educator Certification (BEC) is committed to providing timely, accurate, and efficient services to all constituents. Description: The Records Technician is responsible for processing all incoming fingerprint correspondence, certification fees, and ensuring that all documents are accurately entered into the Bureau of Educator Certification database and imaging system daily. This is a team-oriented position in which the employee must engage with other bureau staff. The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions. The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the team. The employee must interact courteously with others. General Responsibilities: This position is responsible for maintaining an organized workspace. This position must work independently in a fast-paced team environment. Attendance is an essential function of this position. Specific Responsibilities : Enter fingerprint status in the database and verify that proper processing fees are receipted. Review all fingerprint correspondences and assign appropriate correspondence code. Scan and index all fingerprint documents into the database and imaging system in accordance with established policies and procedures. Verify the quality and accuracy of all imaged documents, delete substandard images, and re-scan as needed. Track unreadable fingerprint results and draft correspondence to notify applicant. Maintain records of fingerprint cards and applications received. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Keyboarding and number pad skills. Organizational skills. Ability to synthesize and summarize information for recording data. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Technology and computer experience. MS Office experience.
