Quality Assurance Specialist Under the general supervision of the Business Analyst, the Quality Assurance Specialist will lead and facilitate the analysis of products in development, ensuring that project standards are observed before the final products reach end-users and stakeholders. The QA Specialist is responsible for implementing quality assurance initiatives based on data analysis and process review, ensuring a continuous improvement of ongoing QA processes., The QA Specialist will lead and facilitate data analysis, problem-solving, and the implementation of quality initiatives and continuous improvement ensuring that all applicable standards are observed before the final products reach end-users and stakeholders. The QA specialist will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all of the components that make up UCEAP's enterprise systems including the websites, application management, and student information systems as well as contact relationship management (CRM). This includes core enterprise software itself as well as mobile applications, and various 3rd party integrations.As a member of the IT team, the QA Specialist will be responsible for preventing bugs from being released into production. They will attend design and review meetings with Product Owners and members of the Development team, provide input on both user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, participate in daily standups, release meetings, and keep management and SCRUM teams up to date on testing progress. This will be achieved through manual and exploratory testing. The QA Specialist will design test plans with specific test cases, checking to ensure that features and enhancements meet the specified requirements as well as ensuring that bug fixes do not break existing functionality. Additional responsibilities will include ensuring that features and improvements meet specifications; regression testing all code changes; producing comparisons reports to confirm the quality of the software; participate in discussion plans for products in order to understand the overall intent and business purpose of the software and verify that high-quality products are designed in conformance with customer requirements, best practices and regulations.The QA Specialist will also assist the Business Analyst in documenting the systems and collaborating with documentation. This will include both operation manuals and training materials that outline operation processes as well as any updates to procedures or practices within the development process. The QA Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining document management systems related to the enterprise systems both in development and production.The QA Specialist will also work with Business Analyst and Instructional Designer to ensure that staff receive all necessary and appropriate training. The QA Specialist will identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet quality standards and facilitate training sessions for system end-users and stakeholders.As a member of the IT team, the QA Specialist will assist with project-related tasks and security initiatives, maintain up-to-date understanding of the latest techniques in the industry related to securing applications and services, and identify and remediate vulnerabilities associated with applications and services and help maintain compliance with UC guidelines, state, federal and international regulatory controls. Minimum requirements: Bachelor of Arts degree in a related field and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Apply understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures to test complex software changes or enhancements. Experience with selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for testing and releasing software. Experience in creating detailed test plans. Strong manual and exploratory testing ability. Excellent investigative and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with dynamic priorities. Ability to synthesize data into comprehensive reports. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. The ability to be productive with minimal supervision and work as a team member. Detail-oriented with exceptional planning and organizational skills. Demonstrated effective facilitation, communication (verbal and writing), and interpersonal skills. Ability to serve as an information resource to technical writers. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel; ability to work productively with a both technical and non-technical staff at various levels in the organization. Effective collaboration and teamwork skills. Desirable requirements: Experience writing test cases for software projects and working with IT staff. Experience automating tests (mobile/web). Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Delivery (CD) experience. Knowledge of Visio, Microsoft office tools. Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies and tools. Knowledge of Drupal. Understands compliance requirements for higher education or University of California standards. Experience with the use of automated testing tools and the ability to perform automated QA procedures.
