Job Description: The Public Safety Sergeant/Shift Supervisor reports to the Director and Deputy Director of Public Safety and supervises the 3:30pm-11:30pm Sunday through Thursday shift. As a senior officer, the Public Safety Sergeant/Shift Supervisor exercises supervisory responsibility over other officers and is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure campus environment in compliance with Arcadia University policies, Federal, State and Local laws /ordinances and acts. The Public Safety Sergeant/Shift Supervisor has primary responsibility for all administrative duties including writing and presenting crime prevention programming and assisting in the statistical analysis of campus and area crimes, ensuring a safe and secure campus environment. During assigned shifts, a Public Safety Sergeant/Shift Supervisor must be ready, able, and always available to effectively respond to a wide variety of situations and prepare daily for upcoming events. The Sergeant/Shift Supervisor must adapt to changing conditions, laws, patrol procedures, general orders, work rules, and recent court decisions. The Sergeant/Shift Supervisor is accountable for the well-being of the students, faculty, staff, and public who occupy the grounds and roadways of Arcadia University and to ensure the constitutional rights and guarantees of all. During non-business hours, the Sergeant/Shift Supervisor is often the highest-ranking law enforcement official on campus and is expected to make most decisions without consulting a higher authority.Due to the decision-making nature of the job, the Sergeant/Shift Supervisor must be prepared to give immediate assistance to the public by making decisions for the University that may be unrelated to law enforcement. Location: Glenside Responsibilities : Essential Functions Identify and report hazards of safety and security on the campus. Ability to complete accurate reports. Oversee daily Roll Calls and Uniform Inspections. Provide training and re-training to staff. Ensure that shifts are covered with adequate personnel. Address staff concerns, disciplinary actions, and vehicle readiness. Provide coverage and assistance to campus activities and events (signs, parking, etc.). Perform all administrative duties and responsibilities. Explore and pursue crime prevention grants and other funding opportunities. Clery Act / OECR/Title IX / SAVE ACT / FERPA / HIPAA duties/responsibilities. Emergency Management and Preparedness duties/responsibilities. Attend scheduled meetings and represent the Department, when directed. Interact with external public safety agencies when appropriate. Perform as a Public Safety Officer on patrol, during special events, and in emergencies when required. Conduct Employee Evaluations. Provide protection for university persons, property, and guests. Supervise and conduct crime prevention programming and explore innovative and cost-effective crime prevention training opportunities with Local, State, Federal and Private agencies, and Institutions. Qualifications : Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Required: Candidates with two or more years of supervisory experience, preferably in a University Campus Police or Public Safety setting. Other training and experience will be considered. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in related fields, Act 120 certification, and/or certification from Fire, Corrections, and Law Enforcement academies. Training and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Required to complete and pass a criminal background investigation, drug screen and motor vehicle check. This position requires for individual to have and maintain during employment a valid driver's license with no moving violations. Applicants must be CRP/First Aid certified or can successfully complete the certification. Arcadia University regularly offers CPR/First Aid training on campus at no cost to the employee. Knowledge of dispatch systems, radio communications, fire systems, CCTV, emergency procedures and switchboard communications is a plus. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, golf cart and/or bicycle. Must have the physical ability to patrol on foot, climb stairs, and provide emergency rescue assistance to trauma victims including removal from hazardous environments.
