Summary Responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading technology classes at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library. In addition, the position performs computer help desk and technology help program duties for Library patrons involving computer software, applications, and related questions. It requires the ability to access, input, and retrieve data from the computer; ability to perform light to medium work; ability to teach effectively. Pay Rate is $15.00 per hour. Not to exceed 20 hours per week. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Under the supervision of the librarian, handles weekly and monthly technology classes offered to the public; Plans and organizes instruction in ways that maximizes learning, employs appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter including strategies to meet diverse patron needs; Develops weekly lesson plans for approval by supervisor prior to public classes; Performs help desk duties for patrons, including assisting with Thursday tech drop-in programs as needed; Generates system reports from the Integrated Library System and others as needed; Provides assistance in use of equipment and software to both patrons and staff; Remains aware of new technologies, which have application to library operations; Attends appropriate meetings, workshops, and seminars; Assists the Librarian with outreach efforts including promotion of classes and programs; and Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This is a non-supervisory position. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma and at least 1 year of computer teaching & technology - related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge Of Methods, practices, and equipment used in information technology; methods, practices, equipment, and software used by basic to mid-level skilled library patrons. Technology teaching practices. Microsoft Office, Smartboard software, Facebook, Instagram, basic email functions, and Google classroom. Skill/Ability To Ability to communicate effectively with good public speaking skills and strong presentation delivery abilities; a good leader, with a variety of teaching styles that facilitates one-on-one and group learning activities; operate and teach Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; operate Adobe Acrobat Reader; operate and teach Smartboard software; prepare basic but concise weekly teaching plan; perform basic and complex mathematical calculations; read and interpret manuals, policies and procedures; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; type and enter data efficiently, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Texas driver's license. The employee may be required to crouch, kneel, crawl, push, or pull wiring, and/or equipment. The employee may be required to use a ladder to access work areas. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
