The proposal manager will be a critical member of the business development team for Manatt's Health Care Group, focusing on the development of large scale engagements. The proposal manager will spearhead the development of proposals by Manatt's Health Care division in response to formal RFPs or high-value pitch/proposal requests from prospective clients. Working in close partnership with our health care professionals, the Proposal Manager will support the proposal development process from beginning to end, including RFP analysis, bid decision facilitation, requirements definition, workplan development, project (proposal) coordination, proposal strategy definition, content development, fee approach, document production, and extensive team coordination. This position is ideal for a health care lawyer or strategy/policy consulting professional with strong writing and project management skills who is seeking to transition into a more specialized role. The Proposal Manager will Project manage the end-to-end proposal development process, including development and tracking of proposal project workplans to ensure key milestones are met, the RFP process is followed, and timelines are defined, communicated, and met on time. Partners with others on the Marketing team to maintain an up-to-date bank of proposal-ready project qualification descriptions, professional biographies, and standard proposal language. Understand the RFP requirements and the pursuit strategy to help the team create compelling and client-focused proposal documents and presentation materials. Schedule and lead RFP kickoff meetings, develop detailed project plans, and collaborate with professionals on drafts, as required. Draft original copy for proposals and marketing collateral based on initial interviews with professionals about relevant experience, including content from previous proposals. Provide quality assurance and document management, including liaising with document production team to deliver the highest quality proposals and presentations. Serve as the master editor on most RFP responses and high-value pitches/proposals in order to quality-check readability and consistency of messaging; convert contributors' content into a cohesive document with a clear, single voice. Develop strategic and creative best practice guidelines for the pitching process, including gathering intelligence, audience analysis, and client/project need analysis, perception analysis, and key message development. Work closely with the professionals and Marketing team on developing improved marketing content for presentations, proposals, and other business development communications. Actively develop a strong understanding of the Firm, its departments and practice groups, and the industries it serves. Share information and best practices around response development with the broader business development team and professionals. Ensure new experience matters are captured in the Firm's experience management database, which is used to produce on-demand collateral and proposal content, and maintain the integrity and completeness of the information across divisions and ensure that the content is well written and easily searchable. Manage the marketing databases and knowledge management tools, including the library of pitch components, the proposal resource center and ensure completed proposals are filed. Track firm-wide pitch activities and produce reports evaluating key factors such as overall win/loss rates, growth areas by practice and industry and other reporting as requested by Firm management. Develop over time a robust working knowledge of the health care content most commonly included in RFP responses, proposals, and pitches. Qualifications A minimum of five to seven years of proposal management or proposal development experience with a sophisticated professional services firm or corporation Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills and a strong attention-to-detail Excellent interpersonal skills, along with a "can-do" attitude that results in developing impactful relationships with others Ability to develop over time a robust working knowledge of the health care content most commonly included in RFP responses, proposals, and pitches Ability to be proactive and results-driven and a demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement goals and objectives to consistently meet deadlines and manage numerous competing priorities Flexibility to travel and work additional hours on short notice when needed to meet department goals, and the willingness to work extended and irregular hours to perform essential duties A demonstrated ability to be team player and establish a positive and confident approach partnered by tenacity and commitment Strong influencing and negotiating skills and an ability to persuade others to deliver; Ability to manage multiple projects with competing, shifting priorities and make decisions professionally and effectively Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing work situations and possess the capacity to manage pressures and occasional setbacks A Bachelor's Degree is required; PMP certification or an advanced degree is a plus. The base annual pay range for this role is between $130,000-$150,000. The base pay to be offered will vary and depend on skills and qualifications, experience, location and will also take into account internal equity.
