Job Title: Program Leader 1 (Bus Driver) Department: Boys & Girls Club Reports to: Program Supervisor FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive Type: DOT Effective Date: 05/01/2022 Job Summary: The individual oversees volunteer staff and club members related to transportation services. Other responsibilities include maintaining vehicle assigned, maintaining safety of members, public and staff, maintaining a high profile in the community, recruitment of members, and soliciting sponsors for programs, activities and events. Essential Job Functions: Note: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position. a. Plans route schedule for afterschool transportation programs. b. Transports students to and from club events and schools. c. Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations. d. Assumes responsibility for the safety of school children. e. Instructs children in safety precautions and practices. f. Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to supervisor. g. Inspects and cleans organization vehicles. Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before as scheduled. h. Reports delays and accidents. i. Re ports defects or problems with vehicle to supervisor and assures organization vehicles meets regular maintenance schedules. j. Contributes to the creation of the overall club's climate for youth development. k. Markets and maintains a high profile in the community through publicity and quality programming. l. Solicits sponsor for programs and special events m. Provides youth with essential guidance support system. n. Plans and coordinates activities with supervisor and co-workers in time manner. o. Recruits members ages 6-18 for transportation program. p. Works with at risk youth/teens. q. Performs related work and reports as assigned. Conditions of Employment: a. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration. b. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense. c. Must have a current valid class "B" commercial driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record. Prefer CDL with Passenger Endorsement. d. Completion of first aid and driving courses. e. Recommended that drivers have State of Texas Bus Driver's Certification and must attend ongoing defensive driving training. f. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred. Required Education: High School diploma, GED or equivalency Education Preference: Associates Degree Educational Substitute: Not Applicable Required Work Experience: Some experience in bus or similar vehicle operation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which would provide the needed knowledge Experience Preference: One (1) year of experience in bus or similar vehicle operation. Supervisory Experience Requirement: Not applicable Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities a Requires a knowledge of Boys & Girls Club programs. b. Requires working knowledge of youth programs and general maintenance. c. Working knowledge in the operation of light and heavy school buses and vans in transporting club members. d. Must be able to work under pressure. e. Able to understand and follow directions both written and oral. f. Must be in good physical condition. g. Must have good public relations ability. h. Sensitive to the needs of youth/teens. i. Training on highway safety rules and regulations. j. Must be able to work under pressure. k. Other specialized job requirements include being able to understand and follow directions both written and oral. l. Must be in good physical condition. m. Must have vision in both eyes. Individual works indoor in a well-lighted, air-conditioned buildings, on the road utilizing a 72 passenger bus, vans, and city vehicle as well as outdoor to implement and oversee programs. Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
