Job Description: The Department of Engineering and Technology at Southern Utah University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or non-tenure-track position at an open rank in Construction Management or Civil Engineering. This position is a full-time faculty position to begin August 2024 and is open to candidates with either a Master's degree (for a non-tenure-track appointment) or a Ph.D. (for a tenure-track appointment). The position is local at SUU's campus in Cedar City, Utah. The candidate must hold an MS or Ph.D. degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field, which must be completed by the appointment start date. Candidates who will complete the MS or Ph.D. within one year from their start date will be considered. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment and ability to teach at the undergraduate level. The position includes benefits that may include relocation expenses to hired candidates for on-site employment. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Date of first consideration: 12/14/2023 Duties and Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Construction Management and Civil Engineering courses. The use of effective teaching strategies Curriculum development Mentorship of students. Additional responsibilities include: Active participation on service committees Engaging in student-related activities such as student construction management club Construction field trips Networking fair events Other duties as needed to support a robust and dynamic environment for student learning. Experience with ABET accreditation is a plus. Faculty are expected to provide quality educational experiences in Construction Management for majors and non-majors in a student-centered environment. Non-tenure-track faculty teach 30 credit hours per year (4-5 courses per semester), and tenure-track faculty teach 24 credit hours per year (3-4 courses per semester). Faculty are expected to teach face-to-face, but limited opportunities may exist for hybrid or online teaching modalities. Although Southern Utah University is primarily a teaching institution, tenure-track faculty do have an expectation to engage collaboratively with students and/or peers on scholarly activity that generates per­reviewed publications. No such expectation exists for non-tenure-track faculty. Faculty actively participate and collaborate with the department to enhance a robust Construction Management curriculum based upon industry standards as communicated by an Industry Advisory Board (IAB), student feedback, and accreditation review input. They participate in and support the renewal of the program accreditation within the department. All faculty must fulfill service opportunities within the department, college, and university. Education and Experience Requirements: MS or Ph.D. in construction management, civil engineering, or a closely related field (degree determines whether appointment is non-tenure-track or tenure-track). Note: ABD applicants may be considered for tenure-track appointment if expected degree completion is within one year of the anticipated start date. Commitment and ability to deliver quality teaching. Effective communication and ability to interact positively with faculty, staff, and students. Evidence of research/scholarly activity (only applies to tenure-track applicants). Preferred Qualifications: University-level teaching experience. Three (3) years minimum practical experience in construction management or construction engineering positions with construction contractors in the industry's commercial building, engineering, or industrial segments. Interest in and competence in using computers in construction management applications. Experience where an applicant has held position(s) with responsibility for and authority to plan, schedule, monitor, and control construction projects or significant portions of large projects.
