Job Description: Toyota Material Handling's manufacturing facility includes processes for sheet metal cutting and fabrication, steel saw cutting, CNC machining, press brake and hydraulic press forming, manual and robotic MIG welding, resistance welding, powder coating, painting, assembly, and inspection as well as processes specific to our product including hydraulic cylinder and hose manufacturing. A Production Engineer within the Welding Team is responsible for pursuing continuous improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost in their assigned area of responsibility. This is done through an ability to gather and analyze data of process and equipment conditions, problem solve, and implement countermeasures utilizing engineering principles in a timely manner. Essential Position Duties: Support Production activities by continuously improving: Safety Quality Productivity Prepare new, and improve existing, welding processes Identify and implement projects and countermeasures to reduce equipment downtime Reduce manufacturing environmental impact Introduction of automation and new technology to maintain productivity Increase production capacity to meet sales forecasts Improvement of material flow within the plant to reduce lead-time and improve safety Manage improvement projects utilizing schedules, budgeting, and key performance indicators Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner Additional duties as assigned Job Specific Responsibilities - Welding: Complete concept designs for welded assembly fixtures that meet TMH expectations for quality, durability, and serviceability. Ability to produce and complete detailed designs and drawings is a plus. Resolve product quality issues through the interpretation of part drawings and inspection reports and a mechanical understanding of the interaction and relationship between parts and fixtures. Investigate, procure, install, and optimize equipment to increase process efficiency focused around welding This position will support strategic objectives to reduce welding man-hours per unit by automating operations that are currently completed manually. Experience with automated GMAW equipment, especially Motoman robots is preferred but not required. The position will become the technical expert for their assigned support area and will proactively identify and implement improvements for safety, quality, and productivity concerns before problems occur. This position requires daily interaction with production Associates and equipment suppliers. This position reports to the Production Engineering Manager over welding and provides daily support to Manufacturing and Maintenance to resolve process issues. Education & Experience: Understanding of manufacturing methods including welding, cutting, turning, and milling Able to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and measurement methods Willingness and ability to effectively work hands-on Strong technical experience with problem solving and troubleshooting equipment Strong work ethic, intrinsically motivated, ability to organize work and multi-task. Computer skills, including the ability to prepare thorough, concise reports and justifications. Ability to work and communicate professionally with all levels within the TMH organization. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (mechanical/industrial/electrical). 2-5 years hands-on experience preferred.
