Responsible for developing supply agreements for inventory or non-inventory materials and supplies. Responsible for ensuring the continuous supply and timely procurement of packaging, ingredients, MRO and other materials. Manages current suppliers and maintains close contact by correspondence and telephone to keep abreast of market and procurement conditions, new technology, and makes recommendations to ensure an uninterrupted flow of materials to the production facility. Takes an active role in Bill of Material reviews, the inventory cycle counting program, inventory rationalization, and warehouse management. Salary Range $78,500 - $116,600 Core Responsibilities Complex Procurement Methods, Mathematical Models and Cost Reduction GoalsCreates and manages purchase orders, invoice discrepancies, and forecasts. Ensures all suppliers have consistent forecast visibility and adequate capacity.Responsible for purchasing packaging supplies and materials and their timely delivery to ensure production schedules are met.Implements mathematical models and utilize ERP tools to establish stock replenishment points, improve customer order fill rates and minimize inventory carrying cost.Meets the production facility's cost reduction goals by developing and implementing plans that include supply chain for Smithfield to include Production, Transportation, Quality Assurance and Marketing. Cost Savings ImplementationManages cost savings implementation at plant location. Influences the adaptation of purchasing programs and supplier adoption. Leads multifunctional department teams to include Operations and Quality Assurance to identify and mutually agreed upon cost savings projects. Cost Saving InitiativesManages cost savings on key commodities based on price negotiations, value improvement, total cost reductions, and inventory management. Evaluates strategic supplier relationships on specific commodities.Develops and directs cost savings projects by challenging supplier pricing, generating value engineering ideas, and creating negotiating strategies. Leads continuous improvement projects by actively simplifying processes and reducing non-value-add administrative activities.Supplier Strategic Relationship, Objective Performance and Reduce CostsImplements supplier selection criteria based on strategic relationships to support new product innovation, packaging and ingredients. Leads the sourcing process, including strategy, analysis, RFP development, negotiations and contract review.Makes decisions based on reductions in total cost or supply chain cost or revenue enhancement.SuppliersDevelops and implements supplier relationships.Evaluates existing suppliers and selects new suppliers on plant specific items. Works collaboratively with external/cross functional contacts to ensure supply requirements are being met.Acts as primary liaison between the plants and suppliers and works to resolve supply, quality and cost issues.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in purchasing, materials management, agri-business or related and 5+ years' of relevant experience2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required.Broad knowledge of purchasing processes and supplier relationship management.C.P.M. or APICS certification, preferred.Knowledge of ERP or MRP systems, Microsoft Office Word and Excel.Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong negotiation, planning, organization, and execution skills.Must be able to travel 5% of the time.Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Purchasing Department.Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
