Plant Operator Duties: Serves as the on-site team expert for power plant operations who performs all necessary tasks associated with the operation and maintenance of the plant (inside and outside the control room), including operating equipment from the control room, performing preventative and minor maintenance tasks as well as general housekeeping. The Plant Operator ensures the plant complies with production demand schedules and use of operating procedures, assists in the development and implementation of efficient operation procedures. The Plant Operator performs emergency response activities and the confined-space rescue team and will assist other departments as assigned. Operates company vehicles and equipment and leads, trains and directs lower skilled employees. Performs administrative functions in support of work unit such as, but not limited to, personal timekeeping, manual and electronic logs, materials support, work order completion, incident reports, cost monitoring, scheduling and quality control/quality assurance documents. Also performs the following: 1. Operate the Boiler Turbine /Generator units from the control room. 2. Operate equipment from the control room in an efficient, safe and reliable manner. 3. Apply knowledge of power plant operation while operating the boiler, electric bench board and the computer-based graphical operator interface. 4. Interface with the Transmission Operator and Marketing Department using 3-way communication. 5. Apply knowledge of selective soot blowing practices and heat rate reduction practices. 6. Applies comprehensive knowledge and skills in the operation of the units, including safety, heat rate, environmental compliance, and load following. 7. Assist in the development and implementation of efficient operating procedures such as heat rate reduction, operating parameter management, NOx reduction, and opacity reduction. 8. Second blocking schemes for Lockout/Tagout. 9. Conduct switching and tagging operations. 10. Provide leadership to the operations function, including decision-making ability. 11. Perform all the duties of the O&M Technician 2. Qualifications: ▪ Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the job. ▪ Capable of communicating with market related groups, the Transmission System Operator or the NYISO in an effective and positive manner. ▪ Demonstrated leadership skills. ▪ Completion of the qualification program for Operations Technician. ▪ Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work effectively as a team member. ▪ Be physically fit, alert and safety conscious.
