SUMMARY: The Physical Therapist is responsible for providing physical therapy services to meet primarily the gross motor developmental needs of children between the ages of birth and 5 years. The Physical Therapist may be asked to address other areas that appropriately fall under their code of practice; to include fine motor skills, sensory processing, orthotics and equipment needs. The physical therapist may see school age children as well. The person in this position is responsible for the overall program planning, organizing and implementing treatment approaches, and periodic assessment services as it applies to physical therapy services for the child on his/her caseload. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program and hold a current license to practice physical therapy in the State of California. Obtain and maintain Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid Certificate.Language Ability: Must possess ability to read, write and understand English. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must. Must have the ability to present information with clarity to all stakeholders orally and in written reports.Math Ability: Knowledge and ability to work with mathematical concepts as appropriate to position.Computer Skills: Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other programs as needed in position.Driving Skills: Must possess a valid CDL and have a clean driving record as well as operate a vehicle in good working order for employee transportation. Must have proof of ongoing auto insurance on personal vehicles. COMPETENCIES: Must possess knowledge and/or skills associated with early childhood motor development, treatment techniques, and developmental/medical needs of children with a variety of disabling or at-risk conditions. Is punctual and dependable Provides excellent internal and external customer service Must work in an ethical and professional manner Demonstrates professionalism with respect and sensitivity to differences Quality and Quantity of work reflects professionalism Has strong interpersonal skills that include responding well to supervision Must be able to work collaboratively Must be able to work independently Has analytical and problem-solving skills DUTIES: Conduct initial and periodic physical therapy assessments of children to: determine current skill levels determine the individual's progress in meeting the outcomes outlined on the IFSP/IEP/IPP plan and previous assessment. address potential assistive technology/equipment needs assist in identifying family/educators/caregiver concerns and issues suggest areas to be addressed in the new IFSP/IEP/IPP. Plan and implement therapy sessions based on assessment findings. Provide suggestions as well as family/caregiver/teacher training on techniques to help meet identified needs. Respond to the individual's changing needs by making adjustments to the intervention plan. Collaborate with other UCP disciplines serving each individual as needed to best meet the needs of the individual being served. Maintain written documentation of visits and assessments, to include completing and filing paperwork in a timely fashion according to department policy. Participate in IFSP/IEP/SST and IPP meetings upon request. Maintain good communication with families, Regional Center Service Coordinators, school staff, UCP staff, and others working with the individual and their family. Maintain current Physical Therapy license. Adhere to Physical Therapy's Code of Ethics. Participate in staff development and in-service education to learn new treatments, procedures, developmental skills etc. Participate in staff meetings. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
