Job Description Outstanding Pharmacy Technician Opportunity at Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Victorville, CA * Excellent Compensation! * Part Time Position Days, Monday - Friday! * NO Weekends! NO Call! NO Holidays! Note: This position is contingent upon contract award. POSITION OVERVIEW: All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Pharmacy Technician. Services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations associated with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JACHO) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institution. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Pharmacy Technician shall encompass the following tasks, including, but not limited to: * Reading and interpreting prescriptions and medications orders written by medical staff, selection and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using typewriters or computer systems, preparing prescriptions for review by a BOP/PHS Pharmacist prior to dispensing and giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate. * The Pharmacy Technician will not fill, issue and/or deal in any way with DEA controlled substances but can be responsible for the running of pill lines upon proper orientation by the Pharmacist. * The Pharmacy Technician will assist the Pharmacist in ensuring that only medications listed in the approved BOP Formulary are dispensed and will ensure that request for Non-formulary Medications are initiated and submitted to the Pharmacist for approval. * The Pharmacy Technician should be proficient in maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and medical supplies and preparing the proper paperwork for replenishment of inventory, as well as maintaining an expiration date log to ensure that no outdated or expired stock remains in the inventory. * The Pharmacy Technician will assist in updating patient education literature, assisting in improvement of performance studies and also assist the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the inmates. * The Pharmacy Technician will prepare recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals, maintain the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion maintain stock of appropriate forms utilized in the pharmacy department and shall in the absence of the Pharmacist, and maintain the pharmacy operation, within guidelines governing the duties of the Pharmacy Technician. Prescriptions must be reviewed by a Pharmacist prior to dispensing to the inmate population. * The Pharmacy Technician should be able to accurately input a minimum of 25 prescriptions per hour. Qualifications * Education and Certification: At a minimum, the Pharmacy Technician must have a medical/technical background obtained through education or on the job training in the Pharmaceutical field and be a high school graduate or equivalent. * Experience: 1) The Pharmacy Technician must have experience working as a Pharmacy Technician for at least three (3) years OR 2) have a Certificate of training for Pharmacy Technician services. 3) College level training in the sciences and mathematics and past correctional experience is desirable, but is not required. * Certification / Licensure: 1) The Pharmacy Technician must be certified or licensed in any State. 2) Possess and maintains a current BLS certification (American Hea...
