WELCOME TO YOUR CENTER! Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 75 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County. As of 04/01/2023, the Center has relaxed its COVID-19 vaccination requirement for employment. New employees are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated. The Centre reserves the right to amend this requirement based on health concerns and/or governmental recommendations to protect the well-being of our community. If this requirement changes, employees will have 30 days to comply. POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Sexual Health and Wellness Manager, the Peer Support Specialist is responsible for assisting Sexual Health and Wellness program staff to ensure the success of The Center's health education and prevention efforts. In this role, the Peer Support Specialist will assist with administrative tasks, including but not limited to, data entry and validation, scheduling appointments, communicating with clients, responding to emails, screening clients, and ensuring program participants are linked to internal and external resources. This position will also assist clients with linkage to care and other supportive resources, linkages to PrEP interventions, outreach to promote The Center's Sexual Health and Wellness services, and providing services under The Center's SAMHSA grant awards. PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative Responsibilities Ensure program data is entered into appropriate databases by established timelines. Reconcile data discrepancies, merge duplicate records, and conduct quality checks. Complete daily review of Quest Diagnostics results reporting. Assign reactive STI cases to Community Health Educators, conduct mandatory reporting to The County Public Health Department, and provide results to clients, when appropriate. Assist with scheduling HIV, HCV, and STI appointments, including contacting clients to remind them of upcoming appointments. Respond to clients emailing The Center's #BeTheGeneration program through the website, social media accounts, and other platforms, making internal and external referrals as appropriate. Screen clients for eligibility and assist with enrollment in appropriate programs. Client Facing Responsibilities Educate clients about PrEP, HIV, STIs, & provide systems navigation. Follow up with clients about PrEP adherence and services received. Develop rapport and maintain client engagement. Maintain timely and accurate documentation of participant services. Enroll clients in health care coverage as needed (e.g. ADAP, Covered CA enrollment, etc.). Assist clients with name and gender marker change. Schedule and conduct interviews with eligible clients to collect survey data. Collaborate with the Sexual Health and Wellness Manager to meet program recruitment milestones. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Experience : 1-3 years of experience providing customer or guest Professional Skills : Teamwork and collaboration, optimism, and having a growth Language Skills : English. Computer Skills: Must be comfortable working in PC/Windows-based environments. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Outlook, and Excel. Other Skills : Must demonstrate competence in working with a variety of diverse populations. Must demonstrate a client-centered, sex-positive, non-judgmental attitude about sexual health. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities. Those with lived experience as a member of a historically under-served community (i.e., low income, communities of color, LGBT communities, immigrant communities, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience: Certification as a California HIV test counselor preferred. Additionally, experience with HIV prevention in diverse communities, Local Evaluation Online (LEO) software, and ADAP and Covered California enrollment experience is strongly preferred. Professional Experience : Prior experience working in the LGBT and HIV communities, preferably in a non-profit setting, is strongly preferred. Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Experience with using electronic health records is preferred. Language Skills : Fluency in Spanish is preferred. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Compensation : The pay range for this position is $18.50-$20.50 per hour and is commensurate with experience.
