ShelterCare's Keystone program of Eugene, OR is seeking to hire a full-time Peer Support Specialist to support adults who have experienced chronic homelessness and diagnosis of Serious Mental Illness as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator. The Keystone is a 15-unit permanent supported housing complex for chronically homeless families coming from the central waitlist held by the county. ShelterCare is considered a healthcare organization. Following state rule 333-019-XXXX, on or before October 18, 2021, covered healthcare providers and healthcare staff must provide their employer: Proof of vaccination showing they are fully vaccinated; or documentation of a medical or religious exemption. The Peer Support Specialist earns a competitive wage of $16.48 - $18.72/hr, depending on experience. This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Prorated for employees working less than 40 hours a week. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST As a Peer Support Specialist, you will dedicate 100% of your time to direct service delivery. You will perform a wide range of tasks to support the consumer with regaining independence within the community and in their own recovery. The PSS must demonstrate an ability to share personal experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships. This also includes properly assessing the needs of those on the case load and supporting the participant in the development of goal and housing planning, progress towards the goals, and proper documentation of that progress. You will actively identify and support linkages to community resources (educational, vocational, social, cultural, spiritual, clinical, professional services, etc.) that support the consumer's goals and interests. You will provide support services in a collaborative approach with individuals that will obtain or maintain housing; develop action plans, help with budget and housing needs; and coach in developing skills that will improve the communication and relationship with landlords. You will also provide appropriate crisis management techniques, assess the level of safety, respond with appropriate level of support, and properly document any incident in an incident report. The PSS will visit community resources with the consumer to assist them in becoming familiar with potential opportunities. As a Peer Support Specialist, you'll love being able to make a difference in the lives of those you serve. QUALIFICATIONS Required An awareness, understanding, or lived experience with the issues facing low-income people in the community, especially with regards to housing and eviction. Experience as a mental health consumer, or with a family member who has received mental health services, and the ability to use these experiences to support others in recovery Ability to be certified as a Peer Support Specialist Ability to drive agency vehicles. Ability to successfully pass a DHS background check. Preferred Peer Support Specialist certification and fully registered on Traditional Health Worker Registry Prior case management and/or counseling experience is strongly preferred Experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness WORK SCHEDULE The schedule for this full-time position is Monday - Friday , 8:30am - 5:00pm .
