POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for providing a high level of client service to all payroll stakeholders, including but not limited to all employees and people managers, with exceptional attention to detail and a focus on process efficiency. The Payroll Specialist will ensure the effective operations of the Payroll Unit – comprised of Payroll processing and Payroll Analytics - so that TPA can best meet its legal and Collective Agreement payroll obligations while at the same time enhance the employee experience. This role will be accountable for building and managing Best Practices Controls to ensure compliance with legislation and collective agreements. They will be responsible for the investigation, interpretation of, and implementation of payroll changes as a result of changes in legislation and collective agreements. In addition, the incumbent will collaborate with internal (HR & Finance) and external stakeholders (City of Toronto) to understand and implement best practices. The ideal candidate will have experience with a union workforce and leading payroll to continuously upgrade payroll systems. RESPONSIBILITIES Complete the biweekly payroll processing for salary and hourly employees which includes non-union, union, part time staff, and that employees are paid accurately and on time. Audit and balance payrolls prior to processing. Analyze and process payroll expenses to the financial systems. Maintain TPA’s payroll system (“ADP Workforce Now”) which includes working with TPA’s third party provider’s (ADP) customer support teams to implement best practices Work closely with other Payroll, HR and the business; responding with a service-oriented approach of prompt, courteous, and timely communication. Responsible for recurring and ad-hoc report generation for payroll-related information, as well as the development of new or custom reports. Collaborate with the HR team in support.
