Your Role at Cabot Cabot Corporation is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Accountant to join the HR Shared Services & Operations team at either the Billerica, MA or Alpharetta, GA Cabot locations. The primary focus of this role is to perform accounting activities to support the benefits and payroll function and ensure tax compliance for a multistate organization in Canada and the US. You will act as a back-up to calculate and record payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, and withholdings. Lead accounting, reconciliation, analysis budgeting/forecasting of U.S. benefit programs. There will be work assisting with a payroll transformation project and developing best practices. You will monitor and update tax codes and rates in the payroll system, respond to payroll inquiries and requests, provide payroll reports and analysis, and stay updated on payroll laws and regulations. You will also develop ad hoc payroll reports, work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure good payroll service quality. This role sits within a wider team and at times may be required to deputize for the Payroll Manager when needed. This role is based in either Billerica, MA or Alpharetta, GA, but is eligible to participate in Cabot's current Flexible Working Arrangement (hybrid) program. How You Will Make an Impact Payroll Responsibilities Accountability for ensuring payroll taxes and reports to federal, state, and local agencies are accurate, reconcile payroll accounts and resolve issues, conduct payroll audits and ensure compliance. May act as back-up to ensure payroll is governed and processed consistently, accurate, timely and compliantly. This includes preparing files to send to Cabot's payroll vendor to process the biweekly production of payroll for the U.S. and Canada, including garnishments, benefit contributions and payroll related taxes for over ~1,300 employees consistent with federal and multi-state wage and hour laws for all hourly and salaried employees. Audit / verify 3rd party processing of statutory reporting and compliance filing(s) to ensure accuracy, compliance and timeliness. This includes weekly/monthly/quarterly payroll taxes and W2's and T4s. Partner with Accounting to provide payroll register information and other necessary reports to coordinate banking arrangements related to payroll funding, check reconciliation and other related matters. * Prepare, review and approve the general ledger entries and present financial reports on a monthly basis adhering to month end closing deadlines. Ensuring GLs are accurate, prepared and available on time, in-full. Prepare and deliver payroll cycle finance reports to each site finance manager. Work collaboratively across teams, providing actionable insights to help drive optimal payroll processing and drive continuous improvement. Support payroll and benefits with SOX controls compliance by reviewing and educating team on controls and changes, testing controls, performing key employee reporting, updating payroll processes and participating in various internal and external audits - including Sarbanes Oxley. Benefits Responsibilities Forecast and calculate actual benefits fringe rate for North America. Monitor fringe rate activity and analyze data to develop a fringe budget rate. Review, calculate and prepare fringe true-up each quarter. Communicate fringe rates and trends to Corporate Accounting and Corporate Planning. Collect, review, adjust and consolidate global fringe rates. Work closely with benefits and actuaries to understand impact of medical costs on benefits and the subsequent forecast. Develop accurate quarterly accrual for 401k and communicate to Corporate Accounting. Work with U.S. premiere benefits vendors to understand cash reserves on hand and communicate to Corporate Accounting. Partner with Benefits leadership to develop, track and monitor annual health and welfare budget and spending. Prepare and present recommendations to CHRO. General Responsibilities Bridge other accounting needs with Accounts Payable for HR function, including resolving coding issues, receipting issues, or reconciliation issues. Perform special projects and/or other job-related responsibilities as assigned. What You Will Bring to Cabot A bachelor's degree in Accounting or HR preferred. Holder of a payroll qualification and/or working towards relevant professional qualification (i.e. FCP, CCP, etc). 3+ years relevant work experience in accounting or a similar role handling payroll and benefits as a liaison between finance and HR business groups. Strong proficiency in Excel (i.e. pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc). Solid knowledge of federal, state and local payroll tax regulations and processes. Full cycle payroll processing experience. Project team level participation in new systems implementation's a strong plus. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion. Experience with SOX controls a plus.
